MY DAD - A US COAST GUARD KOREAN WAR VETERAN |
| SANDRA VON PLINSKY HOGAN wrote on August 3, 2009 City and State: BURNSVILLE NC Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My Father, Alfred Walker Von Plinsky (BD 12-22-1922)was in the US Coast Guard and on the USS Durant from 1942 thru 1945. He was in Boot Camp at Manhattan Beach, NY, then on to Ft. Hancock, N.J. for 10 days, and on to Amergansett, Long Island. He attended Machinist School in Groton, Connecticutt. He and his shipmates crossed the Atlantic 7 times during their convoy duty. They were in ports at Casablanca, Bizurti (N. Africa), Africa, Oran (Algeria), Palermo, and Sicily. My father died August 1, 2005 and was the President of the USS Durant Reunion Association at that time. Keywords: USS Durant - DER-389 |
