Comments: I am looking for information on mygrandfather his name is Byron Renner, he may have been knows has Pete to others. He was stationed on the USS Diachenko during the Korean War. He served from 1951 to 1955. He was a Navy frogman on the UDT 11. I would like to know any information any one might know either on him or the ship or UDT 11 of that time. It is very important to me and my family. Thank you

Finding info
On behalf of my Mom's friend, I am looking for information on the status
of David Joseph O'Callaghan who served in the Korean War. He was known
to have been a fireman aboard the USS Diachenko APD 123
This is all I know about him at this time. I have been searching the
Library of Congress but to no avail.
Please place this email with your other "looking for" queries for Korea.
Thank you.

it seems like the ship diachenko (?) apd (# ?) has been left out of the
ships history of the korean war. this was one of the ships that landed
marines at inchon (wolmi do) (again spelling).
as my father served on this ship i think she deserves to be listed. i
think this was chesty pullers ship. check out the marines for his
bibliography if it exists. later my father waws to earn a presidential
citation presented by vice-admiral dewey strubble aboard the battle ship
missouri for his actions.
my fathers name is clarence w andrews (although mispelled as charles) on
the citation, en2 i believe at the time. for actions dated nov 13, 1950
for mapping out the water route for evacuation of pusan harbor. it ia
not also known, but the usn official photo of the massive explosion
destruction off pusan harbor (which went off 3-4 minutes early) shows
the aft section of the diachenko and also shows a person in the air on
that aft section photograph apparantly either getting blown off or
jumping in surprise at the explosion. that person is my father. please
feel free to contact me at my fax 920 324 2535 or
at drawman@powerweb.net
thank you very much
(yes father is still with us and living in san antonio, tex)
