MOORE wrote on January 8, 2012 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: OTHER Comments: On June 1,1952, a F4U-4 aircraft Bu.No.82163 of Squadron VF-113 off of the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea-CV-47, was hit by enemy AAA fire, and ditched in Wonsan Harbor. Went from there to the Etlah AN 9 until discharged. The only names I recall are a Boat's Jeske and a Lt. Knofla? Tuna boat design with the sweep generator housed in the fish stowage area. Hull of white oak. We carried two 20mm and a 40mm weapons. So close to shore on Fly Catcher op we blew a train leaving a tunnel. Picked up shot down fliers in Wonson. After the summer of 1952, work was mostly at night. On Thanksgiving Day 1952, at Wonson on a deep sweep had close aboard hits almost sunk ship. Keywords: Mine sweeping ops in North Korean waters. Three battle stars (or more).
