Keywords: Charlie Landman was the father of a very dear friend of mine. I'd like to surprise her with a gift of a framed print of the USS Coral Sea and any stories fellow servicemen can tell me about their serving with Charlie. It was during the Korean War. I know he was injured and met my friends mom when she was a nurse in the hospital he was sent to.

Comments: Looking for anyone that can substantiate my flying in a Helicopter over to the USS Ranger in March '65 to visit my brother, Roy Baker and on to deliver the mail to the escort ships and then on to Danang.
Also, anyone that can state that they knew that I flew off the Coral Sea on July 04, 1965 on the COD, into Danang and then on to Subic before going on the the States for Separation. It seems as if the Ships Logs are sealed and I cannot get the flight records. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Bob Baker

Comments: I served with VA86 aboard the Coral Sea during the 69-70 Westpac cruise. Sometime that winter we went to Korea (not the March 68 deployment). Does anyone know the dates we went - and WHY we went - I always thought we were there because of North Korean captured the USS Pueblo, but now know that event happened 1/68 (I was in "A" school at that time and would not have been aboard ship). Would like any information about this deployment that is available. Thanks M.Blackwell

If you knew him, liked him, thought he was a jerk, knew who he was dating or if he had any family and where they were from, then it is crucial that you respond. He had this big quasi- monobrow and seemed to be a player. I deserve the right to know.

Comments: Looking for list of VC-8 shipmates in 1953 and 1955 Med. Cruisebooks of USS Coral Sea. Earl C. (Bill) Bishop, AD1, plane captain on AJ-1 Savage was killed, along with pilot Lt. Don Bowman, and bombadier/navigator Lt. Powell Waid in crash at Naples on 20 July 1955. AJ left from Port Lyautey for the Coral Sea, had hydraulic problems, diverted, and crashed into a glass factory at Naples, Italy. He was also on Coral Sea during 1953 Med. Cruise. I'm helping his "kids" search for shipmates who knew their dad. I was also in VC-8 on '55 Med. Cruise, but lost the cruisebook.

Comments: My father spent time on the USS Coral Sea and I would like to know if there's anyone else out there that was on the carrier the same time he was. There have been numerous reunions for those who shared the journeys on the USS Coral Sea. There is another reunion coming up October 2000. If you served on the Coral Sea, have you been to a reunion or would you like more information on the reunion?

Coral Sea (CVB-43) was launched 2 April 1946 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co., Newport News, Va., sponsored by Mrs. T. C. Kinkaid, commissioned 1 October 1947, Captain A. P. Storrs, III, in command; and reported to the Atlantic Fleet. Coral Sea sailed from Norfolk 7 June 1948 for a midshipmen cruise to the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and returned to Norfolk 11 August. After overhaul and training in the Caribbean, she sailed 3 May 1949 for her first tour of duty in the Mediter ranean with the 6th Fleet, returning 28 September. She returned to the Mediterranean for duty from 9 September 1950 to 1 February 1951, bringing her impressive strength to the 6th Fleet in its important role as guardian of peace in the Mediterranean. An overhaul and local operations upon her return, as well as training with Air Group 17, prepared her for a return to the Mediterranean once more on 20 March 1951. As flagship for Commander, Carrier Division 6, she took part in a North Atlantic Treaty Organization exercise "Beehive I." She returned to Norfolk 6 October for local and Caribbean operations, next sailing for the Mediterranean 19 April 1952. While on service with the 6th Fleet, she visited Yugoslavia, and carried Marshall Tito on a one-day cruise to observe carrier operations. reclassified CVA-43 on 1 October 1952, she returned to Norfolk for overhaul 12 October. Coral Sea trained pilots in carrier operations off the Virginia Capes and Mayport, Fla., and in April 1953 she embarked the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives for a 3-day cruise. On 26 April, the carrier sailed for a tour of duty in the Mediterranean. This cruise was highlighted by a visit to Spain, and participation in NATO exercise "Black Wave" with Deputy Secretary of Defense R. M. Kyes on board as an observer. Returning to Norfolk 21 October, she carried out tests for the Bureau of Aeronautics and trained members of the Naval Reserve at Mayport, Fla., and Guantanamo Bay.
