The Admiral told me to read the Captain's Log book while I was on board, but did not tell me why. Upon completion of this assignment I returned to the AGC 7 and the Admiral told me that Cdr. Mathews was the skipper of a Mine Sweeper in WWII and was the subject of the Book, Caine Mutany. He was sent back to the States for several "similar" instances while in Sasebo and the Bay of Pusan. Prior to leaving for this assignment, the Admiral told me to be sure and take the time to read the ship's log, particularly regarding an earlier incident in "south Korea". The trip back took two weeks. When I returned to the Mt. McKinley, the Admiral told me that the relieved skipper was Cdr. Frederick R. Our LCM's and LCVP's were in the water at the time of this great loss.We picked up 23 of which 17 survived.The Dead we placed in our Reefer and delivered them to our Naval Base in Pusan,South Korea. I spent many lonley days and nights while on board.However I take Pride in the time spent,with such Fine Men on USS Comstock LSD "19". Keywords: Edward L.
