Comments: The trip took two weeks. The Admiral told me to read the Captain's Log book while I was on board, but did not tell me why. Upon completion of this assignment I returned to the AGC 7 and the Admiral told me that Cdr. Mathews was the skipper of a Mine Sweeper in WWII and was the subject of the Book, Caine Mutany. He was sent back to the States for several "similar" instances while in Sasebo and the Bay of Pusan.
Keywords: Assigned by Adm. F.X.MacInerny, SOPA, to bring Comstock back to Yokuska October 1952 when Cmdr F.R.Mathews (skipper) was relieved of duty and ordered back to the States.

Too others Thanks for your sacrifices and keeping me free. Sincerely, Karen Friedlander

Comments: October 1952, as a member of Task Force 90 Staff and a qualified O.D., I was ordered by the Admiral to "proceed to the whatever port in which the Comstock was located" and bring the ship back to Yokosuka, Japan. Prior to leaving for this assignment, the Admiral told me to be sure and take the time to read the ship's log, particularly regarding an earlier incident in "south Korea". The trip back took two weeks. When I returned to the Mt. McKinley, the Admiral told me that the relieved skipper was Cdr. Frederick R. Mathews, Annapolis, Class of 1935 - the one that inspired the book - THE CAINE MUTINY, by Herman Wouk,
