The cimmeron tanker was also based in Korea for a short time. Dad said they would refuel there without making the journey back to California.
At this time the Korean war was unfolding.

Comments: Looking for info about Leo Larsen Nielson. My uncle always wore his USS Cimarron cap. Didn't know him really until after I moved to Utah where they lived and eventually moved in with he an my aunt. I know he served during the Korean War, but don't really have more info than that. If you remember him, please contact me, I would love to know more. He was one of the most incredible people I've ever known. Thanks.

He said at 23 + knots with a full load we were the only tanker that could refuel the Aircraft Carriers while at sea.
Two other brand new Texaco tankers could do it.

Comments: The Cimarron sat in Korea bay for about a month, when we sailed to San Pedro and went into dry dock for over hall, from San Pedro we sailed Sauda Arabia for fuel and took it to Guam, this was a 18 month tour,we would stop at Clumbo Cylon for liberty on the way to Sauda and on the return we would stop at Singapore.Captain Murphy was the skipper at the time. One of the ship crew got into trouble and was given a court marshall and was given ten days bread and water and time was to be served in the ship brig. The medical office refused to ok the brig time beacause of the intense heat, put the seaman was but in the brig and while he was in the brig he became very ill,and almost died. This was reported to the fleet comander and we sailed to Pearl Harbor and this is when Captain Murphy was relieved of command.Never did know what happend to Murphy if any one knows let me know.I was a F1/c and was in the boiler room.
