Found a book of letters from Kenneth W Dryburgh

Comments: I found a book containing dozens and dozens of letters from Kenneth W. Dryburgh to his family from 1943 to 1945. A complete series of letters about the war. I want to scan them and post them somewhere for posterity. but ultimately I'd like to get this back to what ever family he may have had. If anyone has any leads to Kenneth, I'd like to contact them.

Comments: WENT ABOARD THE (CHICK) IN NORFLOK AFTER SHE CAME OUT OF MOTHBALLS AND SERVED ON HER THRU THE CUBAN BLOCKADE, HAD A GREAT GROUP OF RADIOMAN AND WE HIT ALOT OF PORTS TOGHTHER.

I served on the AO-54 in 1954 to 1955 they were ship in the sueaz canal when I was there.

Comments: I was onbaord when the ship was recommitioned in 1954 when they blue out ship before intering the canal. We was 129 men counting our Captain. We steamed 8 on and 8 off. Ran aground in the suez canal. etc. To all our shipmates good luck and success. From Victor bolduc.

Comments: Went aboard the Chik July 1951 while the ship was in dry dock at Long Beach. After overhaul the AO54 served in the Military Sea Transportation Service, transporting oil to military bases from Alaska on the west coast to Maine on the East, passing though the Panama Canal six times. In the fall of 1952 the Chik was oufitted with guns at Mare Island for preperation for refueling ships off the coast of Korea.Our home base was Sasebo Japan.

I served as MM2 in Auxillary equipment mainenance (A Gang) I would like to hear from any of the old gang.

TAO-54 1956 - 1957

Comments: We commissioned the Chikaskia in Mare Island in 1956 as a Transport Aux Oiler, to be home ported in Houston. We sailed her for thousands of miles in that one year, hauling oil out of Bahrain and Aruba, while never coming close to Houston. Anyone out there during this period, would love to hear from you.

Comments: Joined Chick crew at Honululu '51, traveled the world as MSTS TAO54 then after outfitting at Mare Island joined Korean Service hauling oil from Yokusuka and Sasebo Japan to Korean waters. Served as EM2 and Master at Arms. Transferred to LST 859 as Chick rotated back to USA.

Chikaskia in 1946 nuclear tests

Comments: I am a reporter at the Philadelphia Inquirer (daily newspaper). I wrote a story about a recent tanker oil spill in the Delaware River, and I received a call from a retired contractor, who told me the spill was nothing beside what happened when he served on Chikaskia in 1946. He said it was badly damaged (9 of 27 tanks opened, 150,000 bbl. lost) in an accident also involving USS Nevada (a subject of the test) during preparations for nuclear test in Pacific. Taken to Bremerton, Wash. for repairs. I would be interested in correspondence with anyone who has information on such incident. Thanks.

FREE CLOTHING NOV 1946 BREMATON NAVY YARD?

Comments: Any body still doing the reunion? By the way, the reason the AO54 had to be drydocked in Seattle was the "hot" hull.

Keywords: Remember Getting a lot of skivies,tshirt, socks,hankies,white hats December 1946? I was the CSK that came aboard in SanFrancisco, and when trying to learn about all those Cartons with oil stains at bottom? discover ALL containers oil stained had been surveyed down there during BIKINI tests after the Oil King goofed (just a little)-- anyway, since all those clothing and small stores no longer existed officially per navy Bureau Supplies and Accounts Manuals --I got "informal" permission to get sizes and distribute same!!!! While on active duty with Army during Korea, I was the only WW2 veteran wearing WHITE Navy skivies(Ha and ha! Does any of the crew fron the Bikini time span remember this? The only other 'stores' on board at that time was a SKDisbursing 3rd?
