Served aboard 12/53 to 8/56

Comments: I was transferred to the Chevalier December, 1953 from the Bremerton, Washington Reserve Group where I had playhed baseball one year for the Bremerton Naval Base. I came aboard as a Seaman and left as a SKI, achieving this rank in May, 1956.

I served aboard the Chevalier until about July, 1956 just before the ship departed for overseas headed for Australia before going on to Japan. I was sent to the U. S. S. Perkins anoher DDR for a short time before discharge in August 16, 1956.

I was discharged barely in time to enroll in the fall semester at what was then Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University where I received three degrees.

I have many fond memories of the Chevalier and the many fine people in the Supply and other divisions. Alan Ray was the Captain when I was aboard.

While aboard, we made two oversea tours and the ship departed for another one when I was shipped to the Perkins to await discharge. I often wonder about what happened to my old shipmates.
