Comments: Won gold cup award when mess cooking. Went from messdecks to storekeeping. Two SK1's were Art Hilson and Bob Brown. Remember the trip to Getmo. Had many good times and a good group of shipmates. Whatever happened to Tony Waters?

Comments: I was aboard the Cadmus leaving Norfolk January 1, 1958 to catch up to fleet in the Med..with about 60 guys in transit..we hit a storm a day or so out that had us all eating crackers and oranges..took us ten days and was never so happy to see FDR CVA 42 as my new home..remember the master at arms blowing cigar smoke in faces of already green troops that sent them racing to topside and railings..was a experience that I will never forget..

Comments: Served in Ships Company I.C.Gang with Joe Solito from the Pittsburgh area and Don Kelley from Springfield, MA. Played on the "E" Division basketball team and softball team. Served watches in the boiler room with MM's Art Zamisch and Ed Walton. I played trumpet in a "pick up" band we had on board. While I was on board we had a Memorial Service for a sailor who got killed in an accident and I played taps on my trumpet. I have fond memories of my time on board the Cadmus.

Comments: My brother, Louis R. Mercaldo, served on the Cadmus from around 1956-1959. He suddenly passed away on March 19, 2002, at the age of 63. Today, his ashes are being released into the sea off of Cape May, New Jersey, aboard a Coast Guard Cutter. I was very young when he served, (I'm 12 years younger), but I do remember that he went to Italy, France, Spain, Gibralter, and perhaps other places during his time on the Cadmus. If anyone remembers Lou Mercaldo and can share any stories, my brother, myself, and his widow and three daughters would love to hear them. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dorothy Mercaldo McCrane
