Comments: I found out that Frank Boone SCsc was with the original crew and was aboard from 1943- June 1945. He was Ship's Cook. Does anyone remember him? Any information is appreciated. I also found out that he kept a piece of the Japanese plane that crashed into the Cabot's deck, in 1944.

Looking for the Cook of the USS Cabot

Comments: My grandfather, Frank Daniel Boone, served on the USS Cabot as a cook and I'm trying to find any additional information. My father's memory is no help so I don't know the years served. If anyone knows where I can get the cruise book, photographs (that aren't already published online) or a reference to his service, I'll take what ever you've got. My grandfather died in '68 or '69 and there are just no records that I can find. Does anyone remember him?

Comments: We flew down from WILLOW GROVE NAS in R4Ds. Our F-6s did a few "touch and goes" for a day on the runway at Pensacola before trying to land on board the Cabot. We sailed down to Galvestion Texas. We took on fresh drinking water there. Never did get that Sulpher taste out of the tanks. I was in a starboard side "well" just off the flight deck during operations working as a "fly one talker" relaying information. The rest of the time I worked on plane maintence records. We towed a yellow gunnery target some days. Had two planes go over the side, one on a "cold cat shot" the other landed missing everything including the barrier cables. Both men survived. Sorry to hear the old girl is being cut up and scraped.

People were trying to raise money to make her a museum like the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi. Heard this summer she had been moved a little further back up the coast but was still intact. I served aboard the Uss George Clymer APA-27 from July 1954 to April 1956 as a radioman in ships company. Glad to find this site, wonder how many other RM's out there remember those days.

Reunion planned

From: Apple29@aol.com
Date: Mon, 9 Dec 1996

Subject: Reunion USS Cabot CVL-28

I have been trying to locate crew members from the Korean era

I have names and service numbers but no state or city address how do I
find these people

Apple29@aol.com

Not sure

On Tue, 16 Mar 1999
John Watkins Email address wrote:

I noticed the absence of the USS Bataan CVL29 from your list of carriers
serving in Korea. I served two tours of duty in Korea aboard the
Bataan.

Also, I noted the USS Cabot CVL30 is listed. I don't think the Cabot
was ever in Korea.

More: I have no official information on the CABOT. From personal
knowledge I can tell you that I served on the BATAAN from May 1950 to
the fall of 1952. My brother was assigned to the CABOT the same time I
reported on the BATAAN in Pensacola (pilot qualifications I guess).

I am not sure how long he was on the CABOT. During the period I
was on the BATAAN (May 1950 to fall of 1952) the CABOT was not on the
West Coast. Hope this will help you.

Thanks for the "Page" - I enjoy reviewing it---
