Comments: My mother-in-law's first husband, Edmond Peel Jackson, was on the USS Buck when it was torpedoed and sank on October 9, 1943 off the coast of Salerno, Italy. I have several pieces of war correspondance and personal effects that I would like to share with his descendants. I know he had a sister named Ruth and they were originally from the Norfolk, VA area. Anyone with information please contact me via email. Thanks.

Comments: I am looking for anyone that served with my father-in-law, Lester (Buster) Blood. He was on the USS Buck from Aug 1950 to Oct, 1951. He was a water tender, 2nd class. Les passed away last year and we are looking for friends and associates from this era of his remarkable life. I understand there is a reunion in Vitginia Beach in October. We welcome any information you may have. May God Bless

Comments: I am looking for shipmates on USS Magpie(AMS-25), USS Toucan (AM-387) and USS Buck (DD-761).
Hi Ted, Yes the Toucan (AM-387) was was very much in Korea. I first went to Korea in USS Buck (DD-761) then transferred to Toucan in March 52 and we were among the last to leave.
After the Armistise we were assigned along with 3 other minesweepers and a DE to patrol around Koji Do to prevent the Chinese or Russians from coming over and forceably taking the thousands of North Korean and Chinese POW's home against their will. We patrolled 63 days without a relief.
When relieved we headed for Long Beach, Calif. and arrived in late November 1953. The Toucan has a very good war record for the number of mines swept, Railroad bridges destroyed, and number of Refugees/Pow's taken. Ed.
I enlisted in Oct 1947 after serving 3 1/2 years in Merchant Marine during WWII. I was on a 3 year enlistment and when the Korean War started I was in USS BUCK in Inchon Harbor. I was involuntary extended and I beat the system. I reenlisted for 6 and stayed for 25. I am what is known in the Navy as a Mustang. That is an enlisted man that came up thru the ranks. I retired in 1973 as a LT. (O-3) after doing a couple of tours in Viet Nam.
