Comments: Reported aboard Brush in San Diego about June 1952 when it returned from WestPac. Most vivid memory was getting hit by enemy shore battery while performing shore bombardment in Wonsan Harbor, May 15, 1953. Served with a lot of great guys in "O" Division from 1952 to 1955. Would enjoy hearing from any of you.

Comments: I am a junior in highschool, and for extra credit in my AP US history class we can bring in something of historical significance. I immediatly asked my mom for some information and out came the pictures of my deceased grandfather, Marshall J. Gates. I learned that he was a captain on this ship from 1960 to 1962 or 1963. I'd love to know more about him or even if u were simply on the ship during this time. I dont know much about him (except he served in the navy and pearly was his nickname) or what he did, and id love to know, anything would be nice. Email me if you get a chance. Thanks so much.

Comments: My dad, Donald F. Quigley (deceased), was the skipper of the Brush during Korea although I don't know the exact dates. I do have a memory of his being in that position around the time of the mine hit and also at Wonsan.

As a young lad of 5-6 years old, I also remember making a run with him from San Francisco to Long Beach (I think) and getting my first taste of sea sickness as we powered out of San Francisco and passed under the Golden Gate into rougher water.

I would appreciate hearing of any anecdotes any of his old shipmates might be willing to share.

I was told it struck the port side in C division sleeping quarters where I bunked. I was aboard in Wonsan harbor when No. 1 mount was struck. Served as radioman on shore party (Bok-to or Chok-to) to bombard enemy positions. Rate was RM2.

Comments: Ray was my father-in-law, although I never met him. He passed in 1993. We don't have his records yet, but we believe he was injured either in the 1950 mine strike or the 1953 shore battery hit. His 1951 wedding photo shows a "crow", crossed keys, and three ranking stripes. We would love to connect up with someone who remembers him.
