John Lewis- artist on U.S.S. Bremerton in Korea

Comments: Looking for anyone who knew John Lewis who served on the U.S.S. Bremerton in the Korean war. He was the ships artist and painted maps on the walls of the ship and various other art projects. He died in a car accident a couple of years after leaving the navy. I have read several letters that he wrote and he sounds like a great guy.

What A Surprise

Comments: It's pure luck! Thought about my 51-55 service SK3 aboard CA130. One bad memory. While at NTC(1951, Co 551)I was a victim of a shakedown for $150 by the Chief. He was to pay back the money the following week. He never did. I've carried this memory around for 52 years and always felt if the oppoutunity ever presented itself, I'd apoligize. Well, here it is. Comments: Hello out there. I have just been contacted by Bob Polanowski about the reunion in September of 2003. Would love to hear from some of you guys who were on the Bremerton during the period 1956 to 1958. I came aboard after DK A school in October or November of 1956. Does anyone remember the period of time we were in Dry Dock in Bremerton, Washington. I know we came back to Long Beach after the cruse that left in November '56. Would like to know who might be going to the reunion in Charleston. I am very seriously considering it. I have been married since 1967 to my wife Jan and we have one daughter.

Have lived in Columbus,Ohio all our married life. She is from Columbus. I was a buyer for 31 years and semi retired in 1998 and am working part time for the same company. The fourth largest Restaurant Supply and Equipment dealer in the U.S.

USS BREMERTON ASSOCIATION OF FROMER CREW MEMBERS

Comments: There is an association of former crew members of the old Bremerton CA-130 and new Bremerton SS-698. We meet every two years.

I don't see any names of persons inquiring about shipmates in our Muster Roll. For membership send $10.00 yearly dues to Robert F. Polanowski, TE1, USN-Ret, 5996 County Road 16, Belfast, NY 14711. My understanding is that the old ship was scrapped years back. We have over 700 members in the association and have a roster.

Comments: Edward Larson went into the Navy in 1945 and was stationed on the USS Bremerton as a Seaman 1st Class, Fire Control Division. The ship was stationed in the Pacific for 'peace time maneuvers'. After 7 or 8 months aboard, the USS Bremerton was decommissioned and Edward was sent to Long Beach, California for re-assignment.
