Comments: I'm interested in getting in contact with and attending any reunion of the Boyd's officers and crew who served during the period 1950 - 1954. If you are a fellow ship-mate, please contact me. I have a lot of pictures of individual crew members taken at their battle stations or work stations in a documentary I prepared while on board and would like to share these with anyone who is interested. USS BOYD DD514 not listed. Our mission in Korea was to bombard the coast
line of Korea and give escort to Task Force 77.
The following is a brief summary of our bombardment at Wonsan Korea,
from the ships newspaper (17 Dec 1951)as submitted by Lt. Lawrence, the
Boyd's Gunnery Officer.
"During our stay in Wonsan the Boyd fired 3292 rounds of five inch
ammunition. We conducted approximately 175 fire mission, blasting gun
implacements; bridges, factories, towns, and troops. The ammunition cost
$118,000, the weight of the shells were 89 tons and we averaged 235
rounds per day."
History for Korea
Excerpt from DANFS:
Recommissioned 24 November 1950, the destroyer reported to the Pacific
Fleet. Following training off the west coast, Boyd departed for Korea
28 May 1951. She remained there, serving with TF 77 and on the Formosa
Strait Patrol, until returning to San Diego 21 December 1951.
Boyd departed San Diego 12 July 1952 for her second Korean tour. She
served on the Wonsan blockade and took part in the amphibious
demonstration off Kojo (6-15 October). She departed Korean waters in
late January and arrived at San Diego 16 February 1953. Since the end
of the Korean fighting Boyd has continued operations along the west
coast and has made three Far Eastern tours.
Boyd received 11 battle stars for World War II and five for her Korean
service.

Hi, my husband served on the USS Boyd-DD544 during the Korean War. He
wondered if there has been or will be a reunion for his ship?
The persons name given at the area of the history of the ship is a
Robert Elves, and I sent email to him, but it bounced back to me. Is
there another person we could write to?
Also, with the destroyer DD-544 USS Boyd, were ships named USS Tingey
DD-539, and USS McDermont? DD-???, and USS Yarnell DD-???.
He wondered why their names were not listed?
This has been a interesting site for my husband, and hopes there will be
a reunion at some time.
Appreciate this site. Paul Carlson, wife Doreen
