Comments: One Sunday morning we were up around Vladivostok, Russia. About 20 miles off-shore, and the Russians sent a few MIG's over to'check us out'. Immediately the Bon Homme Richard launched a few of their aircraft and the Russian and the U.S. planes checked each other out for a bit, the Russians went away and our guys landed back on the carrier.~~~Joseph V.Tipton, former ETSN, USS Missouri BB63, 1952-1953
Keywords: I was in the Electronics Repair Division ("T" Division) on board the USS Missouri BB63 in 1952-1953, When we were engaged in firing operations on the railroad yards at Wonsan and other ports, the USS Bon Homme Richard was most often the carrier that accompanied us, along with two heavy destroyers and sometimes a heavy cruiser. It was a real comfort to see that carrier not far away!

Does anyone know where I can find one? I have tried ebay and contacting the naval library without success. Thank you!

Comments: My 1st travel abroad was a 30 day one way trip from California to Japan on the Bon Homme Richard. Apparently the ship developed an engine problem and we were on board for 30 days. In my 20 yrs of active service this was one of my most memorable experiences. I was just a passenger but I volunteered for any duty on board to keep me occupied. Thanks for the memories.

I'm just curious as to why the "Gray Ghoast" isn't listed as being
in the Korean conflict? Outstanding record fighting in three wars.WWII,
Korea, and Vietnam. The only carrier to do so! She may be scrap now
but in her days, she was a mighty sight to see. Another BHR will be
launched this summer...or at least christened.
Thanks,
