Keywords: I was aboard the Black during two tours in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin. We were escorting the Kitty Hawk and providing offshore bombardment along with the rest of the Destroyer Squadron. On our last tour (1964) we ran into the Asthabula (sp) and had to go into Subic Bay for repairs. I just want to say hello to any and all that served aboard this fine Destroyer.

After engine room 1965--1967

Comments: Looking for shipmates who worked in the after engine room on the U.S.S. Black from 1965 to 1967. Who were involved in the yard overall repairs in late 1965. We all may have gotten asbestosis if any others are still alive. also would just like to talk with old friends. I'm happy to still be alive even with the breathing problems.

His Last known address was Culbreth, GA. I owned a 1951 Green Mercury, he helped me drive. Worked with Melvin or Marvin Clements, Romig, Charles Todd, Landreth or Landrum in Ship-s Office. Todd was a Personnelman.

I'm sorry, I don't even know what his rank was or what he did. He died in 1984 from cancer with his family nearby. Looking for QM's who were aboard July 1955 to June 1956

Comments: I reported aboard the BLACK on 4 July 1955 from the USS WATTS (DD-567) and stayed aboard until I was discharge on June 1956 in the Phillippines . The ship was going overseas again in June 1956 and alto I had 2 weeks before end of enlistment, I had to go with the ship from Long Beach before letting me off the ship. My operations officer was Lt. Jackson and I think my QMC was Donald Sanderson.I would like to contact these 2 men if anyone knows their whereabouts. I enlisted in the Reserves in Long Beach in Jan. 1958 and remained in the Reserves for 25 yrs & retired as a QMCS in 1983.
