Comments: I am a plank owner of USS Bexar, having helped put her into commission in October, 1945. Was Chief in charge of landing craft and auxilliaries during shakedown. Left her in San Diego December 7, 1945. Am delighted to find that she had an illustrious lifetime.

Comments: I found a photo of the USS Bexar in my dad's old albums. He served aboard during the Korean War. Will find someone to scan it for me so that I can make it available to others. There is no date on the photo unfortunately.

Comments: My stepdad is looking for friends who served 1960 to 1962 on USS Bexar. His name is Paul Sorenson from Wisconsin. Please respond if you know him - or if you know of a website that would be more appropriate to locate people from that timeframe. Thanks to all of you for a FREE America!

Comments: Served aboard USS Bexar APA 237 1952-1956 enlistment period. Attached to the Navigation Department as Aerographer's Mate

Also many vets wonder what the finial disposition of their vessels was. It would be nice to have a summery of where the ship went from the time of the Korean War until it was scrapped or disposed of in some other way. Just something to think about.

More:

I obtained a VESSEL STATUS CARD from the Maritime Commission for the USS Bexar APA 237.

The ship was constructed by the Oregon Shipbuilding Company and completed 10-09-45 and delivered to the US Navy on 10-09-45. It served with the US Navy as an active vessel until 08-07-70 at 3:30 PDT when it was placed in the reserve fleet in Suisun Bay, California. Suisun Bay is in the northern end of the San Francisco Bay near Vallejo, CA.

On 07-01-72 the USS Bexar was transferred from the US Navy to the Maritime Commission. She was in the Maritime Commission's reserve fleet until 02-19-82 when it was sold to C. W. Enterprises & Investment Inc. for scraping in South Korea or Taiwan as part of a Trade In Program. The USS Bexar was physically delivered to C. W. Enterprises & Investment Inc. on 06-16-82 at 10:07 PM PDT.

If I come across any more information regarding the USS Bexar I'll let you know.

Keep up the good work.
