Seeking AKA-15 Andromeda vets

Comments: Looking for anyone who was a shipmate of and( maybe even knew) Cecil M. Jones of Kansas. Jones was taken off the Andromeda in late July 1944, and transferred to a hospital ashore in Naples. Jones died in early August, and was buried in Naples Allied Cemetery. Finally, in 1948/1949 his remains were returned home to Topeka.

Comments: Sailed on Andy from 1953 thru 1956. Went to her from Boot Camp (any one remember Camp Elliott?)there was Lt. Whitman QMC Lipsey,QM1 george wright,QM2 (evades me) QM3 Wilson,QM3 Klenk some of the others elude my memory skivvie wavers all. we went to Korea (pusan) hauled a Marine unit and tons of mortar shells. Some idiot liberated a Mrines colt 45, every one restricted until it turned up. Had been in the oil pan of a mike boat. Sailed to Indo China (viet Nam) hauled refugees from north to south, sailed to Hong Kong,Nagasaki,Kuri,yokosuka, first Naval ships to call at Hokkaido since Admiral Peariea Great White Fleet. On to Alaska, through Bering straits,Played bAse ball at Pt. Barrow Lost our rudder to an ice flow and was towed to Queen Victoria island (makes me a blue nose). The Ice Breaker East wind was towing us. We got towed back to pt, Barrow where the tuf ATF 105 the Mollala towed us several thousand miles to Seattle Washington, from there I was transferred to the USS Estes AGC 11 as the Andy was slated for decommisioning. As I recall Capt T.D.F. Langen was the skipper. Cheers

Aug. 1953 trip to Japan

Comments: I came on board the day before the ship departed for Japan in August 1953. We returned in September and shortly went to Mare Island for an overhaul. I got off the ship in February 1954 after it returned to San Diego. I like to get in touch with anyone that made this trip.
