| ARCHIE HARRISON wrote on May 14, 2004 City and State: TUCSON AZ Unit: Service or Relationship: NAVY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: Iwas an ET stationed at Chinhae from mid-51 until mid-52.As "Archie" I was one of the founding group of "Duffy's Tavern". One of the guys was named Duffy but I don't remember his first name or rate. I think that he would have been either an ET or a Sonarman. Our Chief was RMC M. H. Suttman, there was an ET1 Mellon and an ET2 Glenn. My first CO was a Lt. Commander (I don't remember his name--there are a lot of Senior Moments here). He was replaced by Lt. Patterson. We had a cook named Kim, a driver name Pak and a translator named Pak. ADH Keywords: "Naval Advisonry Group" "duffy's Tavern" Chinhae Korea |

In 1993, authority was granted via the Navy Liaison Office in St. Louis, MO for these same men to also wear the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. In August 2001, by ref: (a) SECNAVINST 1650.1F and (b) Public Law 106-65, DAA FY2000; the CNO has also started awarding them (on an individual application basis)- the Combat Action Ribbon. I would be very proud to see the Abbot included in your,"Looking For Korean War U.S. Navy Units" listings. You both are to commended for the truly outstanding job that you have already done- and continue to do." Gilbert N. (Gil) Nelson, formerly LT(jg) USNR Keywords: USS Abbot (DD629) |

| LEE H. ADAMS wrote on May 14, 2000 City and State: CORDELE GA Unit: UNITED STATES NAVY 7TH FLEET Service or Relationship: NAVY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: Thanks for your effort to help the veterans and their families as they seek comfort, information, closure and comrades who are still so young in our minds. Please include the United States Naval Advisory Group, Chinhae, Korea. I was there in 1953 and would appreciate information about my old pals. My best friend was Frank Vaughan or Vaughn. I would give anything to know his whereabouts, and his status. On Mon, 15 May 2000 20:20:58 -0300 Lee Ted~thanks for responding to my inquiry. As far as I know the USNAG, Chinhae, Korea, which is about 50 miles NW of Pusan, was set up to assist the South Korean Navy. Our government gave them many PT boats, gunships, and LSSL's. (landing ship supply, large). Our job was to teach the South Korean Navy personnel to repair all the equipment associated with these ships. They were referred to as the ROKN (Republic of Korean Navy). Our base was established around 1952, and I believe it is still in commission. We lived in houses that were built for the Japanese Army and Navy officers during their occupation of Korea in the 30's or 40's. About 60 men served in this USNAG unit. The skipper was a commander, as I recall, and had probably 8 officers. 20 or so chief petty officers lived in a separate house, as did the officers. We rented a house in the downtown area and named it DUFFY'S TAVERN. Keywords: U.S.S. HECTOR (AR-7), U.S.S. MISPILLION (AO-105), US NAVAL ADVISORY GROUP, CHINHAE, KOREA, U.S.S.
