Comments: I had the privlege to read John Connolly's book of the Buck. Since then he has written "A Tin Can Sailor" which really exemplified the true life of a young man maturing and learning much about life. Additionally, i followed up a book he wrote entitled"our Vanishing Past" which i strongly reccomend to anyone. there is a lot to be learned from other's experiences.

Comments: My husband, Reed Hoeg who deceased January 18, 2002 was in the Navy in the Korean War. Either in Look Magazine or Life Magazine Reed Hoeg was listed and photographed as one of the heroes who was wounded at that time. Could you help me find this picture, I would like to give my children this information in my husband's honor

Hi, just dropping a note to say how much I enjoy your site. I'm looking
forward to watching it progress.

I've been reading the requests for ship information and if these people
knew that they could go to one of the better libraries in their area and
look up the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, Volumes 1-8
(U.S.Government Printing Office) they could find the information they
wanted to on American Ships. There's also a DANFS on line:

(click) DANFS.

They can obtain photos of the ships they want by contacting the National
Archives (NNSP) or the Naval Historical Center. That's how I get my
information and photos (Actually I bought the 8 volume set a few years
ago, big bucks but well worth it) .

Lastly, one person made a comment about the USS Helena CA 75. The USS
Helena was the first Naval ship ever to receive the Korean Presidential
Unit Citation for her first tour of duty off Korea.

There's a very good book, "United States Naval Operations, Korea"
by James A. Field Jr. (U. S. Government Printing Office 1962--Out of
Print, I checked) that can be found at the larger libraries.
