Seeking MATS Douglas C124 log / records from 1952 |
 |
 |
Gabor Kish wrote on 2006-09-08 23:38:19.0
Comments: I am seeking to determine if one can access an aircraft's log or service record after a prolonged period of time. I'm not certain but I would imagine that the subject aircraft would after all these years have been decommissioned.
On or near October 5th 1952, leaving Rhine Main Air base ( Frankfort Germany ) in the a.m. I was a sole passenger aboard what I believe was a MATS Douglas C124 Globemaster which was carrying nothing more than the regular crew and myself. ( Standing in the cargo area felt like being inside of a flying gymnasiun with the aluminum diamond decking and tie-down hardware rattling loudly )
I had been given an emergency leave so that I could visit my wife in the U.S. who was determined to have contracted Polio ( the "pill" was not yet available ).
A short while into the flight I was sitting on the starboard side of the craft when I noticed a stream of what appeared to be oil coming from beneath the inboard engine cowl. I immediately brought the matter to the crew's attention. Moments later the craft banked sharply in a southward direction.
A short while later the aircraft landed on an Azores Island to effect the necessary repairs.
I have related and also have been asked many times to again recall this experience which I have done with the limited information that I have.
I will greatly appreciate it if someone(s) can help me find and access any such records.
Regards, Gabor F. Kish

Comments: I am looking for any information about the August 8, 1957 flight from Travis AFB to Hickam of a C97 commanded by Major Samuel Tyson. They lost two engines halfway to Hickam and great piloting skill was what saved them. Tyson got a second bar to his DFC. Any written reports, knowledge of any passenger or crew who was on the flight would be very gratefully received. This is research for a possible TV documentary on the subject of this extraordinary flight. thank you for looking at this. If this project goes further we would also be interested in former C97 aircrew who can tell us about the challenges of flying this plane.

U.S.A.F. TRUCK MARKINGS |

Grover Parker wrote on 2000-11-05 12:30:37.0
Comments: I am posting n this board To find information on truck markings. Primarily 2.5 ton GMC's. My father was in during the time of the korean war and early into vietnam. He doesn't mention much of his time in the sevice so I have no exact unit info on him. I know that he served in M.A.T.S. and S.A.C. . I purchased a M135 2.5 ton. And would like to do it in Air Force markings for M.A.T.S. as opposed to others because it would be out of the ordinary. Though any A.F. serv. will do from this time. I use my vehicles with my legion and his legion hall in parades and services. If anyone has any pictures of unit markings on any vehicles. Or knows my dad He has the same name as me please contact me. Thank you. Grover Parker III

Never made any trips to Korea. I had a couple of friends from Chicago
that were in the Army, one of which was on Heartbreak Ridge but have
lost contact with him. Do you have any vet who were in the navy during
my active duty dates 12/52 to 12/56.
