Comments: $500 College Scholarship To Be Offered
The 506th Association is now accepting applications for our 2009 College Scholarship. This year the Scholarship Committee will be able to award at least one $500 scholarship due to the generous donations from our membership. Check out the www.506infantry.org/projects/scholarshipfund.html for information on how to apply. Items one thru six, in the link, detail the application procedure while items seven thru thirteen explain the selection process.
Applicants are reminded to include their mailing address, phone number, and email address with their application. In addition, items that are sent with the application cannot be returned. Do not send original documentation as photo copies of important papers will be accepted.
The 2006, 2007, and 2008 scholarship recipients are featured on the www.506infantry.org/projects/scholarshiprecipients.html web page.

Comments: Reading all these messages has brought back a flood of memories...I never realized until now just what a blast I had in korea. I was in D Co. 1/17th Inf "Buffaloes" 1985-1986, we got re-designated 5/20th which really bummed us out so they called us the "buffaloes" of Syke's Regulars. I drove a track called "Heavy metal noize" (D32) and I was RTO for our squad during our "Z" patrols I used to love memorizing all the brevity codes. I too remember some freaky stuff happening during our ambush patrols. When we were on duty at Oullette we called a "spot south" for 3 ducks walking along the road along with the ever present N. Korean submarine in the lake just to keep the guys in the TOC awake. I never did see "singing Sam" though. Seriously though I spent 3 years in the 101st after Korea and never saw the standard of readiness that we had in Korea. We weren't pretty to look at but we were damn effective (that goes for all my Tomahawk, Manchu ["choke on the smoke"], 1/31, and 1/38 bros as well!!!)
I miss the thunder runs in TDC and the scuffles with the tankers from 2nd Tank (2/72), running to catch the "animal bus" so we wouldn't have to walk all the way back to the buffalo AO. The dragon, Starz, and metallica clubs were my usual haunts. I don't miss the rats on GP Oullette, maintenance blasts, and going to the motor pool at 3am with -30° weather to start the tracks so they wouldn't freeze. I'd love to hear from any buffaloes who were at Camp Casey from 1985 to 1986 especially, Ray Zygner, Mike Graham, Delmer Seal (pee-wee), Greg Sparkman, Shaun McGinnis, Mike Reeder (FO), Bill Kennard, and Lance Lamont.

If anyone, especially FIST Chiefs or forward observers, have any pictures with me in them, please e-mail to chiparmstrong@aol.com.
I'd love to hear from any 1988 Currahees. I've seen CPT Beaver (former S1 and C Company commander, retired colonel), CPT Branley (CESO, retired major), CPT Kulbars (chaplain, retired colonel), and LTC Zais (battalion commander, retired BG). From 1-4 FA, I've seen CPT Bo Wilkinson (battalion fire control officer, retired LTC).

One of my pals was PVT Schroder that ended up getting Chaptered for too much SoJu @ the Olympic and Mustang Club. PVT Langford, thanks for keeping me laughing where ever you are. Club guys post and tell us your YoBo's names. Would love to remember a few but right now they're just a SoJu haze of a memory. Does anyone remember them closing a club right on the hill in Song San due to an AIDS scare ? Anyway, I got sent back in 88 for a year @ HHC 2X (TDC, shout out to CPL Orten my homie)I left in 89 and got sent back again in 90 to the 52nd Medical Battalion (Yong-San) and they sent me down to Humphreys to work PSNCO of the 560th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance) for 2 years. Comments: Looking to see where we all ended up and how we are these days.I turned 20 years old in Camp Greaves, Korea, in 1983. I still dream of visiting again, and wonder where we all went. My name is Pfc Vance Elgan, and was with HHC. I remember the night we were all awaken by a " full scale" alert. I was there whe Reagan came to eat at our mess hall. I took Many pictures while there, including sonyuri clubs and girls. Lots of pix of the country and Camp Greaves, and faculty. Would love to here from anyone who remembers

Comments: I wonder where my brothers are, that chewed the dirt of Guard Post Ouelette and Collier so long ago. Every morning as I left the bunker complex to sweep the road for landmines, I beleived that was the longest road I would ever have to walk. I was wrong about that, the road home...was infinitly longer. I still see you all in the darkness, you are forever with me. KEEP UP THE FIRE!

Looking for 2nd Engineers in Korea from 1967 to 1970 - Any Company |
 |
 |
Phil Steward wrote on 2007-12-16 18:37:03.0
Comments: Please contact me. I am looking for any and all former members of the 2nd Engineer Battalion from any Company who served in Korea at any time in 1967 thru 1969.
Several of your brothers are still fighting the effects of our time in Korea. We need photos, copies of Combat Pay orders, statements of duties of the 2nd Engineers who worked in and along the DMZ or who were in my Company, E Company (Float Bridge).
Right now I am working with several guys from 2nd Engineer Battalion who have multiple health issues as a direct result of exposure to Agent Orange. Yes guys, that stuff sprayed along the fence, around the guard towers and the Guard Posts and Out Posts we were building was the infamous Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed along the roads inside the Zone and around the bridgeheads at Freedom, Libby and the Spoonbill Bridges was Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed around our compounds to kill the brush and weeds was Agent Orange.
Even if you have not had any symtoms, like Diabetes, heart problems, a variety of different cancers, or any other health issues, we need to hear from you. And if you are fighting or have faught with VA for care and compensation for these health problems, we need to hear from you. And most importantly, if you had children conceived after your return from Korea who were born with birth defects, we need to hear from you. If you have been successful in winning a claim filed for Agent Orange poisoning or PTSD as a result of your service in Korea, it is very important for you to contact me.
Even though I am just a former Captain and Company Commander, I made a promise 40 years ago to stand up for my men and to back them in anything as long as they did what the officers and NCOs asked them to do. I take that promise very seriously and now, 40 years later, I will continue to back and stand up for our men. It is very important that I hear from you as soon as possible. For many of your brothers, the time could be very short, but they have families who will need help even if it is too late for the men themselves.
If you can and will help, please contact me at my email: pesteward@hotmail.com, or call me at (706) 996 - 4057.
Thank you.
