Comments: I was adopted at the age of 5 along with my biological sister in 1976. I have recently re-connected with birth family. Unfortunately, my birth mother and birth father are deceased. The birth family has no pictures of them or myself.
I have learned that we lived in Kosan-dong Village right next to Camp Stanley. In fact, I used to play next to the fence dividing the village from the base. I am writing to see if any soldiers might have taken pictures of the people and/or children in Kosan-dong Village while stationed at the base during 1971-1976. And maybe by some chance, it would be pictures of myself and/or birth parents. I am told we spent alot of time by a large rock next to the fence and a playground-that is still there.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kindly, Kathy Sacco

It was really something to be 21, a SGT E-5 and serving with you all. I was surprised at the number of you that I ran into while I was in 1/2nd ACR in Germany 1978-80. If you had some memories you wanted to share or just say hello it would be great to hear from you.

Camp Matta |

Garrett O'Hara wrote on 2004-08-31 18:14:06.0
Comments: Greetings to fellow vets. In that short 14 months I moved around a lot. I started out at Camp Matta (Last Chance Saloon in Shang pa-ri), went to Camp Casey(TDC)but we ex-7th ID guys hung-out at Rosa's Canteena, an old 7th ID hangout in Toko-ri, just outside Camp Hovey where we occasionaly fought with 2nd ID jokers who didn't like our 7th ID patch. We still wore uniforms off-post then. Well, I ended-up at Camp Rice with C Troop, 7th Cav (Yongi-go, I think it was)before contracting hepatitis and spending a short stint at 121. I spent a second tour (around 26 months)with the 142nd MP Co, 8th Army in Yongsan, 74-76. I was there for the assasination of the First Lady and the Tree Incident. We thought all hell was going to break loose. We're all a little older now and (hopefully) wiser - I had a blast despite some of the hardships we endured. I recall freezing and no hot water the most. The DMZ sure was a spooky place. My father was a Army Korean War Vet with the 24th ID. He later joined the Marines and spent three tours in Nam. He died a few years ago of Agent Orange related cancer. Well, warm regards from Kansas and God Bless you all!
Keywords: 1970 - 1971 Turned Camp Matta over to ROK Army. 3rd/32nd Inf moved to Camp Casey. There was a ceremony wherein remainder of 7th Inf Div awarded Korean PCU (Singman Rhee), 7th ID combat patch, combat chevrons and 7th ID Bayonet Badge. Colors sent back to U.S. and 3rd/32nd becomes 1st/32nd (Bucaneer Bn)under 2nd ID.Most 1st/32nd farmed out to 1st/72nd,1st/73rd and 7th Cav, where I went. We really were the tail-end of the 2nd Korean War. Wow! Never really thought much about that until now. I was part of an historic event.

Comments: Loved the ville's, To-ko-Ri & T.D.C.. Still despise the Commies.Have my piece of the"tree'' from the "ax murders". Like to talk or e-mail w/ other "Tree Men" from any unit or branch of service., as the V.A. Hospitals will not form a "rap session" for us as they did for Nam & previous combat vets. & yes I have asked to be hooked up w/ other O. P. B . vets that are seeing Mental Health at V.A. & for some odd reason V. A. will not get us together. Any ideas?why. I have my own assumption. I am not seeking help for a claim as I am already 100% S/C. Just a history buff wanting to know what other units were doing during those trying days & months afterwards. Bullshitters keep it in the bars, pleeze.

Comments: Whassup guys. Great experience bein there at 21, $5 short times, $10 overnights, dozens of bars packed with girls in TDC - nuttin else to spend money on living in the barracks eatin chow. Did literally hundreds of girls there in the 18 months I was there. Guess we had it good in 2d AG Co, liberty pass in our pockets all the time, overnight almost every night. The morning runs were great, once we ran through the main drag of the ville and as we passed the New Korea Club the CO got us to stomp our feet and shout, "GET UP, GET THE F#!K UP!" Ha, ha, got banned running through there for a while. I actually learned to read and write hangul and traveled around the country with yobos some on time off, was pretty nice and dirt cheap in places away from the bases like Pul Guk Sa. Kinda cool at Cheju Do too, one C-130 in/out a week, rode in with a conex full of shotgun shells behind us. Funny thing, all the villagers lined the road to wave at us in the bus passing by, they really appreciated us bein there. Wouldn't let us off base without havin a short arm inspection first hah hah hah. Hey, some guys memories that stuck with me are SSG Rafael Hernandez-Burgos and CSM Ronald Barker, really super guys. Sure wish I was back in those days, things just aint the same anymore back there since the olympics Korea is a totally different place.

Comments: It has been a long time since I was in Korea, but I do have a lot of fond memories of that place and I have always felt it to have been an honor to serve my country during 1967 and 1968 in Korea.I do remember the Donut Dollies, extremely cold weather and a summer that was very hot, humid, and moldy. I remember Etawah Stands in the hootch. I was in Korea during the Peublo incident and I remember I was extended for another month. I spent most of my time in Korea at the first camp going north past Freedom Bridge at the Imjin River. I am an Imjin Scout.
