Comments: I arrived in Korea Dec. 1970 as a Lieutenant, and assigned to 2nd Bn, 9th Inf., 2nd Div. below the DMZ. later on, the 7th Div. closed down and the 2nd Div. moved to Camp Casey. To keep the colors of some units alive, the 9th was redesignated as the 1st Bn., 31st Infantry Reg. Both units had proud histories, so going from a "Manchu" to a "Polar Bear" was no problem. We then moved to the DMZ around OP Isabella and Jane. My regrets are that there were incidents and casualties, but folks back home never heard of it or read about it. Men 'died in the service of their country'.

Comments: i was in korea from jan 68 to feb 69 at camp rose. i was with co b. i was the company clerk/supply clerk, truck driver and grunt on the imjin river. my company was in alot of incidents, when the pueblo was captured, when the blue house was attacked, when our compound was attacked one night by a patrol of north korean infiltrators and killed three of our night perimeter guards, when we were called from the em club one night to go after a patrol of infiltrators and i thought i was shot in the leg, and was afraid to look, but as it turned out, i was looking at the north koreans as they fired at us and when i saw the flash of the rifle, i felt a sharp pain in my leg, but i had run into a tree branch but thought sure i had been shot. i had many bad times but also had many many good times that i will never forget, although some i have, according to my wife, that only comes out when i am very intoxicated and thinking i am back in country. i had and have many good friends that i will never forget. have many more experiences to share. if any one remembers me or cares to share stories, let me know.

I was reassigned back to Korea and right back to Camp Greaves with Recon CSC 2/9th INF (Manchus) from Jan 76 until Feb 77 and took part in Operation Paul Bunyon with the rest of the Battalion. I saw a couple names I recognized on the board. Seems that the units I was assigned to can't stay away from Camp Greaves. After leaving in 77 I was assigned to B Co 1/506th INF, 101st ABN (AASLT) at Ft Campbell, Ky. They are now the unit currently stationed at Camp Greaves after becoming part of 2nd ID. Take care all.

Enjoyed it somewhat but it seems to me thatif you weren't in the KOREAN WAR we were like red headed step childs. I served from May 1976 to May 1977 & was a participant in Operation Paul Bunyan. I saw nothing there that even closely mentioned the Pueblo Incident in 1968, Operation Paul Bunyan, or any other event that I may not be aware of. No t- shirts coffeecups-notta. I have the utmost respect for ANY combat veteran & I know that Korea right now[2002]is a very dangerous duty post. Per President Bush's speech on the D.M.Z.

I am looking for anyone from my former unit. I would also like to know more about reunions, the certificate that General Brady gave his crew chief to give to me (how cheap)and the pieces of the tree that everyone else seems to be aware of. The certificates were being sold to everybody in the village when we came back into garrison. Any info would be appreciated.

I was in Korea in 1971 stationed with a Hawk missile battery. I found this site while looking for information on my uncle Edmund Kiezanowski. He was killed in action on June 30, 1950. He was with the 71st signal corp. I have been in contact with a couple of good men from his unit and would like to hear more. Even more proud to be American when you read the stories.

Also looking for ANYONE that could find me an "Imjim Scout Badge" (patch and/or badge) and possibly the RedEye patch we designed. I lost EVERYTHING in a fire back in 1981 and am trying to put together some of my "history" for my sons. Would appreciate hearing from anyone that was there at the time, and those that may be able to locate the above mentioned patches/badges.

Comments: My year there was an amazing experience. Only went North of Imjin a few times to escort payroll to Greaves and Liberty Bell. Looked like the end of the earth. Had a funny incident in 1980, I was pulling MP duty at the "S&T gate" which was at the entrance to the 2d S&T batallion compound. There was a little taxi stand there where this retarded homeless Korean kid used to sleep, we called him Maxwell. He'd shine shoes for money, and bum cigarettes. I felt sorry for him. So this one morning he's standing there joking around with me and the KATUSA on duty. Down the street comes MG Kingston, the division CG at that point, known as "Barbwire Bob" for his prickly nature. We COme to attention and salute as he drives by, and I see him and his driver staring in disbelief at Maxwell, who is standing next to me. I peek down quickly and he had dropped trou and was saluting Gen. Kngston with his dick and he's giggling. The jeep stops, and Kingston turns around, points at me and says, "You catch that little shit. And don't come back until you do" SO Maxwell takes off running down the street towards the ville, knowing he's in deep shit, like a greyhound, with me running after him. After chasing him up and down alleys, along the "VD River" banks, through a couple of restaurants, a schoolyard and a bank, I finally tackled him on the 2d floor of the Arirang restaurant on the MSR across from the main gate to Cp. Casey. I drag him back to the PMO, gave him a couple of slaps along the way form making me run after him for over an hour. The desk crew was laughing pretty hard about it and we turned him over to the KNP's that had a liason office in the PMO. They wrapped this kid in an amry blanket and made him spin around while they beat the crapm out of him with poolsticks. He was in there screaming and crying, and I felt bad again, forgetting about all the trouble he'd caused me. The KNP's gave him back to us, and the desk sgt. gave him to one of the MP patrols and told them to drive him to the DMZ and dump him there. Off they go with crying Maxwell. They get up north of the Imjin, near Freedom bridge I guess, and had to drag him kicking and screaming out of the jeep and threw him into a rice paddy. Mine fields all around I heard. They drove away with him yelling and crying but too scard to move, and sundown is coming, not a good place to be at night! My buddy told me later that the drive back took about an hour and they were feeling guilty about what they'd done to this poor homeless retarded kid, leaving him up there where he'll probably get shot. But, as they are turning off the MSR to go through the main gate of Cp. Casey, there he is, waiting for them, with a big grin on this gap-toothed face! He beat them bac, and as they drove past him, he was giving them the finger, laughing and shouting "fuck you Fuck You FUCK YOU!" God that was funny. Got a lot of them.

I served as a crew-chief / gunner (Slicks) with 1st Flight Platoon. Seems like we were always in the air. We flew lots of new-pilot check-rides up along the buffer-zone. Anyone remember flying through the smoke at the crematory up by the Haun River? Great way to gross-out a newby pilot. Heheheh. How about the "Cookie Monster" at Mangil-son? That guy was a hoot! - I'll always remember and appreciate that crew's hospitality. Also was there when Park Chung Hee's KCIA man capped him and put the whole country into a panic. I thought for sure the balloon was going up. Would love to hear from Tom Mitchell, John Lewellen, Bob Rouse, CWO Terry Jones, CWO Reese, Capt Keihardt. Take Care, all. Comments: Have to say hello to all that have gone before me,Hang Tough, Keep up the Fire, Infront of them All, and Stands Alone, 2ND to NONE, Steel Rain, Death By Wire.
I am proud of each and everyone of you that served in the DMZ I too have trod the ground and left my footprints in the mud of the rice patties and rice dikes along the MDL or at the dolphins head, or along the lake in infiltration alley, or in front of Taesong-dong watching the Pagoda all night long in a ambush, or crawling out to the punch bowl,or humping up hill 56 or tripping in the brush or fighting off the mosquitoes is just like fighting off the cold, and I can say after you humped up to GP Ouellette or calluard it was quite relaxing as you waited for the night to come so you could move out again on your night ambush! or standing on top of GP Ouellette and looking at north korean GP 221 or 222A or 222, yah you not supose to do that kind of stuff, but who cared, or watching the fence line lights flash as you moved from ambush to ambush or hearing a mine blow up in one of the many mine fields or coming up from under the bridge of no return at 0430am moving toward CP3 we can all say we have been there and done that.
I just hope there are people out there, that realize that we put our lives on the line every time we patroled the DMZ.
Seems that what we did is lost in the red tape of the military, this is a cool web site because of all the cool people that are on it, you people like me have done something that alot of people will never do in there life, and I got the awards and so do you, but It's like no one cares, we trained hard and we partied hard and we live at a place called Warroir base ,(tent city)and when we got a pass we cross over freedom bridge, went to the vill, did are thing and came back and did it all over again.
Now today there are no people in 2ID that patrol the dmz, they gave the sector back to the ROK in 93 and they don't even man the south barrier fence GP128 is no more along with GP127,126,124,125 it's all done by 1st ROK div. so when you see pictures of us soldiers saying they are patroling the DMZ,mybe the south barrier fence line but not the us sector of the dmz, the only ones patroling in the us sector is the JSA. I worked at 3RD BDE from 87 to 91 and there wasn't a day when a unidentified person or persons was in the dmz, or something was going on and our DMZ BN was there. Now days 2ID soldiers take a tour of panmunjom and that's there DMZ, they have no idea what korea is all about.
Well enough of that, can you tell I been in the (Z) alot I got lot's of imformation about the DMZ, pictures, video tape, current map of the sector showing it all(everything)after all I didn't work at 3rd BDE TOC for nothing, I can tell you this much everything that happened in or near the us sector I knew about it from past events that happened to current events, everything came through us and we keep every thing on file to include well everything, best job I ever had, well we,us,you guys and me can forever say (we stand alone) see ya.

If you read this, best regards to captin shoaf, first sargent callahan, ssg carter, spec 4 grimes, spec 4 casttillo, pvts pate and rodregus and cpl lee kk. wonder if they still play combat football?

Comments: I was assigned to A co 2/9 infantry in Jan 71 at Camp Lawton near Munsani. We operated north and south of the Imjin River. We later turned over Camp Lawton to the ROK Army and moved to Camp Pelham. I haven't heard from any of my old buddies since I came home in Sept 71. If any of you are out there, I'd like to hear from you. Many of you were like brothers to me. Some of us were a bunch of goof balls who loved to have fun and make the best of a miserable situation. But when duty called and situations became serious,we all were professional soldiers 2nd to none. I am proud to have served with you.

I do not qualify as a Korean Vet, but I am very interested in locating and reconnecting members of the USAFSS who served in Misawa. Because the Security Service was a tightly knit group (of loosely knit people!), chances are you may find people you are looking for listed in other unit web-sites. www.misawajapan.com, www.ftva.org, www.silent-warriors.com, www.VetFriends.com,www.gisearch.com to name a few. If you were in Misawa, please contact me! Good luck with your search!

SAMMY W. Snyder wrote on 2002-01-05 19:13:14.0
Comments: I was with the 4th Missile Command, 226th Signal Co. Our Base Commander believe in one thing, LET's ROLL. I Camp Page, and we had the Honest John, and he would see how fast we could get in position to fire that Antique. Me being with the 226 Signal, we had to establish signals before anyone got there, and we always were the last to leave. I believe I became an expert on Camoflauge netting, we had to get in get hid, and communiciate. When we were not communiciating we were walking guard. Many nights I slept on top of a 5KW Generator trailer. Other nights in the floor of the truck, some nights there were no sleep. Lot of folks had fun over there, but I sure as hell did not. 14 months, I lived out of a Ruck sack and duffle bag. I belive President Bush would give all of us Veterans a Medal if we could just set down and talk to him, but with all of the problems he has today, we will never get it done. I believe all of the other folks that's under him, just don't care. I bet they got theirs. Anyway prepare yourself for a bigger battle, before you pass from this earth, accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, when we get Heaven, the Medal will be so big we can't even lift it. God-Bless all of you Veterans, and espically those who are still at it. Your Veteran friend in Christ. Sammy Snyder-sampam@wirefire.com
