Comments: I have been looking for Omar Venecia for about the last six years. We spent a lot of time at the club together at Camp Casey and back in the world at Ft. Campbell after the days in Krea. We did keep in touch for some time there after but then kind of let it slide away. If anyone sees this that might know where he is please let me know. CAMP HUMPHREYS 1971 TO 1972

Comments: I was the company clerk of Co A, 802 Engr Bn (Const) at Camp Humphreys for a period of about 13 months. I surfed in and looked over some of the comments on this website and recognize some of you that I served with. I now live back in my homeland of Wisconsin where I grew up at. I remember the drinking contests and all of the craziness that went on back then. I didn't participate in any of the contests but I sure remember them as the company virtually shut down for that time period. The KATUSA's entered a Cpl Moon to compete with the G.I.'s and that was pure hilarious entertainment as he tried in vain to keep pace with the Americans but just couldn't hold on. He was in the hospital for 6 days as I remember the KATUSA 1SGT ranting and raving on how 'bad he performed' at the contest. Does anyone remember the snowfall in the winter of 1972 when a group of people hid amongst the barracks on the hill overlooking the mess hall and peppered people entering and leaving the mess hall with snowballs? One person in the group of revelers hit the CSM in the face with an iceball briefly knocking him out and a major sweep by the MP's put an end to that fun. Nobody got charged but all were scared, especially the rock quarry platoon who was in the midst of it all. We hada 1SGT by the name of MSG George Moore Jr., and he was a real strickler for rules. One night, the CQ got a message to deliver to him but his CQ runner was at the bowling alley getting drunk and the CQ just happened to see me walking by the orderly room. He asked me if I would deliver the message to 1SGT Moore and I said I would. I knocked on his hootch door and I thought, I thought he said 'enter'. So I did. He was lying on the bed face - up naked with a girl from the barber shop on top of him and he really got P.O.'d when I came in. I promised that I would tell nobody and I have not until right now. I still love ya, 1SGT Moore! Everybody take care and have a great new years! Jerry!

Comments: Was assigned to A BTRY 1-44 ADA (Kwang-Duk) when the President was shot, worked in the motor pool. Was re-assigned to B 1/2 ADA (Camp Memphis) after the ROK took over 1-44.

Looking for information where Kwang-Duk and Camp Memhis were located and if they still exist. Looking for Haggenmiller, Mark Horney and the "Hug a root Gang" and anyone that served in these areas. It was hard duty but was one of the best tours in my military career.....

DMZ PAUL BUNYON

Comments: Wierd then the Scouts did screening missions all day the next day. I can remember the sky being folled with Aircraft and all kinds of Artillery with in view on the other side of the Imjin.

I remember the night before the operation was to start th ROK special Forces were staying in out Gym at greaves and shot the hell out of the place getting fired up. The ROK GP's were going crazy. An SSG from out Unit was told by the Bn commander to put togeather a patrol to take out that night to observe and listen to sounds. His name was SSG Mahn who was the Scout Platoon Sgt. The commander didn't want him to take out anyone that might start a war. So I can remember him taking out our Motor Sgt name Sgt Gilman who was a Ex Green beret in Viet Nam a SSG Ratliff who was the commo Guy a SSG Novak another SF guy and a few other Sgts and myself who became the RTO. We stayed in the DMZ 7our hours and you could hear th enemy moving Tanks and all sorts of things in. We went up on the west side of the road and observed the bunkers being filled by North Koreans through the starlights. I can remeber when we came out we debriefed by Brigade for two hours.

Comments: I would like to hear from the men mentioned in "keywords" or anyone that served w/ my husband, Robert G. Garner, from may ,1976 til may 1977 in the mortar platoon, Csc, 1st Bn, 38th Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 2nd I.D.. ,Camp Hovey< South Korea. He came back in June for Dad's funeral & went back around the 1st of August. He mentions these names & more but talked about "Operation Paul Bunyan" & a helicopter ride to "Hell" that he & his unit did not actually take, before he stopped drinking.He has an old Red & black knit sweater w/2nd infantry patch & Also brought back a Brigade Championship trophy, for Combat Football, & a small cube of plastic with 2nd Infantry patch on top & a short paragraph about free men chopping down a tree in the dmz. Camp Humphreys drinking contest/looking for fellow participants

Comments: I was stationed at Camp Humphreys from December 1971 to June of 1973, assigned to A Co, 802nd Engr Bn. In late 72 we moved from the quonset hut buildings over by the bank to the new buildings. I found out that by flushing the first toilet in the latrine, you could rob the showers for a split second of cold water. Apparently the water pipe ran from in back of the toilets to the showers. I would wait for the first sergeant or anybody I had a grudge against to start showering and when they were washing their face, I'd flush the toilet and quickly run out of the latrine only to hear their yells of pain when the hot water hit their faces full blast. After awhile, I would have another co-conspirator go to another stall and on a quiet count of 3, we'd both flush our toilets together and it would make a double hot face wash for the unsuspecting soul. SGT Standrifge, our pompous operations sergeant was always a prime target. He would preach southern gentlemanship and the merits of fidelity and then shack up with some older woman and lecture us all day about how bad things like that were. So that was our way of getting revenge. I was the CO's jeep driver and what a ball I had! On days when the CO would be off because of Officer of the Day or something, me and one of the clerks would take his field jacket and hat and ride around the compound having everyone salute us. One of the clerks would wear his things and it looked like it was just a mere Sp4 with an officer doing business. Off to the village we'd go.......downtown Anjung-ni and just drive around having a ball. Anybody remember me, give me a holler. I was runner - up in the 151 rum drinking contest at the EM club also (1972), and it took like 2 weeks to recuperate. The CO sympathized with me and let me just sleep in and take it easy. The winner was also from the 802nd which made good morale in the camp. Anybody thinks that this is easy ought to try 37 shots of 151 rum in under 2 hours and see what it feels like! Any other participants that were there, even in 73 (where I was eliminated early because the drink was vodka) please get hold of me. I still have commemerative mugs that not everybody received.

Comments: I served in S.Korea at Camp Mosier the old 43 MASH unit from 12,1976-12,1977. We had several alerts during my tour duty,one particular incident was the shoting down of a Chinook Helicoptor. 19 year old medic murdered

Keywords: Served in Korea from April 1967-July 1969, was in unit near DMZ when our medic was murdered by one of our own GI,s. I was assigned to guard one of four suspects and stay with him 24/7 for a number of days. While i was there, I dont believe they ever found out who killed the medic. Does anyone know about this?

1. Naval battle between NK & ROK forces off the coast of Chejido Island. Spring 1974.

2. Artillery dual between NK & ROK Forces, DMZ at Eastern Cooridor where Co. B 1/9 INF secured the cooridor during the battle. June 28 - July 4, 1974.

3. Nine man patrol (as I recall from A Co. 1/9 INF but maybe another unit) came under friendly mortar fire. 2 KATUSA's (KIA) 7 US (KIA). Summer 1974.

4. Members of Co. B 1/9 INF deployed and repelled an enemy force that attacked a US Radar site near DMZ. September 1974.

Comments: Comments: HHT 4/7th Cav Medic, spent time on radar site 11 and assigned to Delta Troop as Recon Medic. Was supposed to go to D Co., 2nd Med, but some wise guy at division saw I came from the 101st as a recon medic and had just got back from Jungle School in Panama so he "diverted" me to the cav....boy was I glad he did. Was at Camp Stanton Aid Station in 1979. Looking for Mark Luthner, OH58 pilot. I was his sand bag jockey as his bird was furthest across the airfield and he needed someone to carry a sand bag for the CP seat to balance the aircraft. I remember he was dating the daughter of the Chief of Police at Inchon and reupped to get reassigned at Pusan airbase so he could marry her. He got lots of grief for dating her because she did not have engagement papers, or a VD card that were required by law(despite being the respectable girl she was). I don't know what strings were pulled, but he kept dating her with her father's approval. Also those that attended Korean Marine Ranger School with me Sept-Oct 1978 on the south side of the mountain that radar site eleven was on. Remember goose walking up hill by the bridge to the island that had Han and Yi dynasty historic site? Slide for life and rappeling on HEMP ROPE!!!! They smelled like pot every time you got off the rope. How about yummy fish heads and rice for dinner after we beat the instructors at soccer? Also remember mountain patrols to retrieve propaganda leaflets that were dropped by NK's. They were funny: had picture of NK president helping plant rice in rice patties with big kimchi eating grins on their faces. They were english on one side and Korean on the other, but pretty much told us to come to the north and live like kings in life of luxury. We laughed real good about that one and debated who would have the kingdom with the biggest pooh filled rice patty. Also remember radar site 11. I was there as a medic from late October 78 until December 78. Missed my opportunity to burn the cr*p because we just had flush toilets installed. Learned how to run GSR though...great group of guys there. I had to go test the water deliveries and the samples would freeze while I waited for results before it was pumped into our water tank. I had to stay there with my 45 and guard the water while the driver I did not know from Adam pumped the water into our tanks. They told me he sometimes would get our water from "unapproved" sources so it had to be tested. I had to crawl up on the truck and unlock the tank to get the sample. If it was low I had to add chlorine and wait 30 minutes in the cold. How we never got poisoned with all the infiltrators that came across was beyond me. Man that was some cold times. I remember the site was dug down into front of mountain facing Han River Estuary. Our helecopter LZ was just behind us higher up and all of it was exposed to NK firezone. We had one APC that we were supposed to "escape" in if we were attacked but there was about 150 yards of open ground to the east and the west that we would have to traverse -we were sitting ducks. We pretty well decided that the quickest way out was to run over the top of the mountain on foot and down the other side. If course it was 20 minutes by chopper and 4 hours by jeep to get out so I don't know where we would have went as we were on a penninsula! Also remember boat target that came down creek from the north and stopped on the back side of the little island in the middle of the river. The Korean Marine Rangers fired it up real good and it went back up stream and disappeared from our scope. When we tried to get an after action report, they told us it was a log...yeah, one that goes up stream! The next morning a ROK Marine Ranger Officer told me to check two dead NK frogmen's bodies to make sure they were dead. These guys were so dead and so full of bullet holes you if you poured water down their throats it would have run out on the ground. He told me if I told anyone he would beat me. (All those guys were highly ranked black belts and loved beating people up)I had seen him beat one of his troops for an hour in sub zero weather for taking a piece of bread from our cook. Also the night we heard the machinery sound and got a target to the northwest every night. Later they found it was another tunnel being started. Finally, YongJuGol, sin city with 756 registered prostitutes that SFC ????, the 82nd Airborne 11B sergeant got assigned to monitor as the Case Contact NCO. He hated not being in the 82nd Airborne, he hated Korea, and he hated prostitutes, and was tough as nails chasing girls down the alleys that had been identified as a contact by a positive VD test. As a medic I had to go with him and he was quite funny to watch as he would chase gils through the alleys. He shut down the New Seoul Club one night because the Mamason tried to bribe him. The Niagra Club was infested with VD. He reduced the VD caes from about 60 a month to about 12 so he did his job! I saw him 5 years later at Fort Bragg where he was a CSM of a parachute infantry regement and had 2 kids, a girl named Canopy and a boy named Rip Cord!!!! HARD CORE!!!! Now that I am older I hope to get back to visit soon as I am being considered for a job teaching in Seoul. If so, I hope to take my family to see some of the places I have told them about. Comments: Like to hear from any Bearcats, I was stationed at Camp Greaves in 1975 and then our unit was moved to Camp Casey in 1976 after our two Officers were murdered over the tree. I do have photos of the tree if anyone would like a copy or any pictures I took while on patrol of on the Fence which Christmas Day 1975 was on Fence Duty and I may add I was at the time the only 17 year old serving on the DMZ !
