Jimmy Sutterfield wrote on 2006-08-16 10:46:56.0
Comments: Any one who has info on when the 6th. Avn Plt was changed to a company please contact me. I think it was changed to the 117th and more aircraft added in either 70 or 71. The 6th has a short but very histotical history and we are trying to preserve it. I was with the 6th from Dec 67-Dec 68 at CRC. Half of the Aircraft were at Stanley at that time. Any information will be appreciated.

Comments: The best years of my Army career where with the Broken Heart Battalion 78-81. Aco Motor Pool, DSU, Four PaPa One and the with the Rock Quarry crew. I miss all the Crew and friendships made at Cp Mercer (Kimpo)and Cp Nimble (TDC)and throughout the Battalion. We accomplished alot, always mission first. To bad the Cp. Mercer Mess Hall burnt. I really missed the cinnamin rolls baked fresh every morning. I remember waking up to the pleasent smell of cinnamin rolls in T-9 barracks and then the unpleasant morning smell of the rice patties and poultry industries surrounding Camp Mercer. Morning PT runs where always ripe with odors I can't forget. Most of us spent evenings in the Tear Drop Enlisted/Officer's Club. Only two kinds of USA beers to drink, damn good fried chicken at the club too, remember? Cp Mercer and Cp.Nimble Mess Halls had the best Army chow ever and plenty. Note: It wasn't the chow that kept me in the 44th, Korea's still the Army's best kept secret. Lay Hold and Essayons

Comments: David, I e-mailed you through this website but I don't believe you received it (I received an automatic response from my sent e-mail regarding spam filtering). I'll rewrite my message here: Please tell me what you can about 1/15 FA's deployment during Operation Paul Bunyan; the unit does not appear on Wayne Kirkbride's list of deployed units in his book "A Story of the DMZ Axe Murders" (although 1/38 FA does). I was in 1/15 FA Headquarters Battery during 1973 and we were always up on the DMZ; I have always been curious about my unit's actions during Paul Bunyan; I know it had to be involved somehow--my guess is it was deployed further east on the DMZ to defend against a North Korean attack away from Panmunjom. Please give me as much detail as possible; you can respond to my home e-mail or respond on this website; I'm looking forward to finally getting an answer to my looming question; thanks.

Comments: Man, I tell you I remember like it was yesterday. Going to the ville and hanging out. That was the best time of my life and all I wanted was to go home. I wish I was in contact with anyone who knew me. Running through the rice paddies at 11.45 to beat the curfew. Short times, overnight's and drinking gin-ro. We were 18 and knew it all didn't we? Judson, Cardona, Tate, Moon, Dallas, McKay Anyone there??? Whenever I hear Bad Company, it brings me on location. Remember Concord? PX taxi The "I" Club.... 2 drinks for a quarter

Comments: U-21 A/C, Guardrail IV, Operation Paul Bunion,"Tree-Day War", Mr "Harvard" who ran the Hotdog store on our compound, "Henry" from the El Paso Club, 146th ASA "Gangsters" Football team. Seeing the F-4s and F-111 taking off at night with full AB rattling the whole dam place! Flying with our wacky pilots in the U-21s. Flying on board the Hueys in the summer through the mountains and rice paddies danging my boots over the side. Visiting ASA Field Station at Camp Humphrys and visiting the ville(What a Ville!) Best time of my young life!

Comments: I served with Alpha Company Manchus from 1978 to 1979. I am most proud of my service there and remember meeting quite a few wonderful comrades at arms. Anyone serve there between 78 and 79 please contact me. I was originally in Second Platoon with SSG Smith as my squad leader. Then I took over as Unit Armorer and ran the arms room until I left in October 1979. I hung out with Mike Crispin, James Gilkey and others. Does anyone know if that Korean Defense Medal bill went through? If so, how do we go about getting awarded our medal for service after the Korean War?
