Comments: I am looking for anyone who was at Camp Casey and Camp Howze during 1972-1973 and is willing to send us information to help prove his disibilty case with the VA. He had one tumor a few years after service. Then my husband has had two heart surgeries. He NOW also has bladder cancer. (We believe it is from agent orange or agent purple but it appears the VA does not presently acknowledge that was still in use or still in the vegetation and water.) We know it was used in the Kimchi Creek or Kimshi Creek, but we don't know about everywhere else they may have come in contact with the poison PLEASE HELP US!!!(IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OTHERS during THESE YEARS THAT GOT CANCER or if you know about ANY WEED KILLER or vegatation killer or Defoliate that was used on or near these places.)They did field exercises in the DMZ. He also has PSTD and we believe some was caused from the Racial Wars off camp. He saw a lot of people get cut up with straight razers and a sorts of blood. (To this day he does not know if all involved lived or not. A few of his own friends at camp were not white but in the villages that didn't help, "in the "Crack",as they called it.) He also felt helpless and had a hard time seeing his buddies OD when he had the responsibility of being the "Drug Counselor". ( He feared he could not get them to the hospital in time. Two were even foaming at the mouth when he decided he HAD to take them. Some of those ODing got discharged so he bears the guilt from that even though he knows he at least saved their life. He still has nightmares about all of this after all these years. He still sleeps "on Guard" and is hypervigilant. He angers easily especially in situations he cannot control, does any of this sound familiar to YOU?( He almost hit a guy two days ago when he got startled!) If you could e-mail us with your details about the Racial Wars especially a night the "crack" was full and a lot of people got badly hurt, it would sure be appreciated. WE are not prejudgice. (The Song of Solomon is about a beautiful black woman loved by a redheaded Man, so God is not either.)If YOU have PSTD or Cancer and want Larry's story to help your case please let us know and we will return the favor. ( 2-4-D is Dioxin and stays longer in water so if you know about that please let us know where we can get documentation.) The VA wants to know WHO, WHEN, and Where. And it appears they don't do the digging for you. May all your Families find the help they need when even they need it. THANK YOU, MRS L Goble

Patrick Purser wrote on 2007-06-24 20:25:49.0
Comments: Looking to hear from anyone there around '69-'71. Cold!!! Racing our heavy armor in the river on the side of Camp Casey. Infiltrators, Imjin Scouts, Walking patrols on that 3/4 mile long bridge in the middle of the winter. We found ways to get entertained though - racing tanks, Donut Dllies, Bob Hope in winter of '70, APC's were fun as well when you gave it the gas and pulled one stick back to break that sides track and spin (and once flipped) on the the ice. Who could forget Etaewon in Seoul, and the crappers - 2 boards over a hole - on more than one occassion we had to fish out a drunk or high friend, what a friggin trip. Race riots in '70 & '71, but I had a lot of good friends of all colors. Once a month for a week we would guard Freedom Bridge, sometimes we'd even bring our heavy Armor. I can't even count how many alerts we got sent out on trying to apprehend infiltrators trying to neutralize or access the amount and placement of explosives under that bridge. Tunnels to the north, getting a Red Ball Alert and having to pull all available armor up to the "Z" and in the morning seeing Communist armor on the other side. Propaganda leaflets showing GI's blood turning into profits for Uncle Sam and big business - many years later and not much has changed. GI's fighting and having to go through all the beauracratic red tape to get what they deserved. What a tour though, I had a big white peace sign on the front slope of the tank - indicative of the era. The Platoon Sgt used to chew me out about it, but being the youngest Tank Cmdr in our Batallion, he could talk all he wanted - the tank was 10 feet tall, noisy as hell and smoked like hell.

Comments: Greetings Comrades!I served at Liberty Bell when we moved there from Hovey in Sep `78.That was the real, old school Army today`s brave young warriors would marvel at.Very politically incorrect by today`s standards.Imagine 1SGT Lozano challenging anybody in the company to try and kick his ass now?{as I recall, none of us had balls that big!}I remember Capt. Parsons keeping a loaded .45 tucked in his waistband after somebody placed an M-16 round with his name on it on his bunk in the offcer`s hootch.I wonder if Fritz is still buried by the flagpole, or exhumed out of curiosity by the ROK`s?Parsons Prison Blues sung to the tune of Johnny Cash`s Folsom Prison Blues during drunken nights of revelry at the EM/Officer club.Steaming bowls of Ramyun at the Katusa snack bar with the black and white TV tuned into snowy images of North Korean propaganda programs.Freezing nights laying in ambush counting the hours till the Gamma Goat would pick us up.Long cold days in the PunchBowl, watching our counterparts a couple of football fields away.Putting packs of Marlboros in the fence around GP Oullette, only to find them gone in the morning on our dawn sweeps. The carefree pre-AIDS days when a silver bullet in each cheek would cure what ails you.Funny thing is,even at 20 years old, I knew this would be the part of my life that nothing else would ever compare to and I was sadly correct nearly 3 decades later. It blows my mind that the Senior NCO`s and Colonels of today were little boys when we trained the men who would train the men who trained them.I guess that`s what it`s all about and I wouldn`t trade it for anthig. Please write or respond and KEEP UP THE FIRE!!!!

Comments: I served at Camp Red Cloud from the fall of 1969 to late winter of 1971 in I Corps, 1st Target Acquisition Battalion, 25th Field Artillery.
It was a time of relative peace. Yet there was some turmoil. I remember an insurgency team from the North sent to assassinate President Park. They were killed or some caputed not too far from Camp Red Cloud, as I recall. We were far off the mark in the mountains searching for them at the time.
I was serving as a security police officer in 1970 (later moved on to Personnel). Most of the action I saw was between me and US troopers who shot back a few too many. One morning, there was an incident involving a late arriving E-4, a shovel and some quick ducking on my part. I'm glad I'm here to recall that story. I kept my head and was able to shrug it off; he was a friend, afterall. There were a lot of peculiar incidents that were ordinary like this.
We woke up one morning to discover eight inches of water flowing through the Quonset hut -- the insects covered our bed netting like a plague and the snakes glided in one door and out the other. Was that any more bizarre than wiping the vaneer of bugs off the mirrors in the latreen in the mornings in order to shave? I guess not. And I'm sure happy I don't have to change out the can on the kerosene heater every 3.5 hours anymore. God, we hated doing that! But 10 to 20 below on average that winter was huge incentive; besides, nineteen other guys let you know in the morning if you screwed up. Who could forget that?
Anyone out there who suffered the disbandonment of the 25th? I hated being broken up. I had a barracks Sgt. we called "Rock". You still alive? Spino. You out there? Cain. Walkin? Drop me a line. Frisby ... sail me one. Good luck all you guys.

Comments: i have sent over 600 emails to tou vets that shared the same dirt in korean from 1978-79, asking for help fighting the veterans administration. one person i knew responded. i am ashamed that of all the vets that was there, even if you didnt know me could help me document somethings. whatever made me think a vet would help a vet. whats it take just a few emails to see whats needed, remember what it was like needing someone there.were the same guys that made history fighting in am area our goverment refuses to acknowledge.i cant believe you vets can not take a minute to email and help me.VA claims i need statements of encounters and any stories supporting me would help.im not asking for money or testimony just a few minutes.COME ON GUYS
