Comments: I was stationed at C/7/2 from Jan. 1970 to Feb. 1971 as a CW radar mechanic under Sgt Sullivan and Robert Tonti and Warrant Officers Gailbreth and Tallman. My best friends there were John Simmons and Johnny Worrell. I lived in the sp5 barracks by the mess hall. Other people there I knew were Ben Henson, Dale Clark, Ken Sherrill, Charlie Seipel, Sgt Fisher, Corring, Gary Britt, Sandy Toth, Hayward, Goodman.

Comments: Look in the November 2007 VFW, page 15, according to studies the residue remains 25 + years and Congress only authorized 1968 to August 1971 for recognition of systoms of AO, VA/Gov't still in denial. I am covered with Soft-tissue sarcoma, 16 opertions to remove tumors that grow into nerves or sit on nerves. I was a 82C20 and received combat pay eight times for service on DMZ in brush running traverses to lay a battery. Good luck to you and Mother and sorry Dad left us. Their is a lot of information and several key people who research AO for the KDVA and especially for the Imjim Scouts. Search the net to find site and read some of the info out there. Looking for 2nd Engineers in Korea from 1967 to 1970 - Any Company |
 |
 |
Phil Steward wrote on 2007-12-14 22:37:46.0
Comments: Please contact me. I am looking for any and all former members of the 2nd Engineer Battalion from any Company who served in Korea at any time in 1967 thru 1969.
Several of your brothers are still fighting the effects of our time in Korea. We need photos, copies of Combat Pay orders, statements of duties of the 2nd Engineers who worked in and along the DMZ or who were in my Company, E Company (Float Bridge).
Right now I am working with several guys from 2nd Engineer Battalion who have multiple health issues as a direct result of exposure to Agent Orange. Yes guys, that stuff sprayed along the fence, around the guard towers and the Guard Posts and Out Posts we were building was the infamous Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed along the roads inside the Zone and around the bridgeheads at Freedom, Libby and the Spoonbill Bridges was Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed around our compounds to kill the brush and weeds was Agent Orange.
Even if you have not had any symtoms, like Diabetes, heart problems, a variety of different cancers, or any other health issues, we need to hear from you. And if you are fighting or have faught with VA for care and compensation for these health problems, we need to hear from you. And most importantly, if you had children conceived after your return from Korea who were born with birth defects, we need to hear from you. If you have been successful in winning a claim filed for Agent Orange poisoning or PTSD as a result of your service in Korea, it is very important for you to contact me.
Even though I am just a former Captain and Company Commander, I made a promise 40 years ago to stand up for my men and to back them in anything as long as they did what the officers and NCOs asked them to do. I take that promise very seriously and now, 40 years later, I will continue to back and stand up for our men. It is very important that I hear from you as soon as possible. For many of your brothers, the time could be very short, but they have families who will need help even if it is too late for the men themselves.
If you can and will help, please contact me at my email: pesteward@hotmail.com, or call me at (706) 996 - 4057.
Thank you.

Nearly getting courts martialed for shooting at a non-existent infiltrator- "He WAS there! I heard him in the creek-bed!" Cooking Ramen and Ham-n-Beans K-Rations on the old kerosene stoves. Remember the Jeep 1 1/4 with the guard change that got shot up on the DMZ? I have a pic of it. What a mess. YongGi Ri village, the USO, Bob Hope, sweet ladies. Comments: I was sitting on the bus on my way to my new unit on the DMZ. I had just got to Korea in Jan. 76. It was cold, barren, ugly and everyone was telling me horror stories about the Z. We arrived at Camp Howze which was nestled on the side of a hill...looked pretty nice, but not for me...I was going to the Z. The bus doors open and a SPC4 gets in and says, "Is there anyone on the bus that knows how to type, we need a clerk to work in intelligence." She-it! Lucky me was sitting in the front seat...I jumped up so fast I startled the young man. "We'll ammend your orders" he said, as we walked up the hill. For the next 13 months I worked from 8-5 and did very little typing. Thank god cause I had bullshitted the SPC4, but over the next few weeks had taught myself to do so. Through an elaborate scheme, I had a pass each and every night and took full advantage of the adventures in the Vill if ya can dig what I'm saying! Anyone remember the Turkey Farm in Yonjigol? One of the Army's best kept secrets! It was a sad day for me when we lifted off the runway at Kimpo. That was without a doubt, the best year of my life.

Spent 1st 30 days in Kimpo AFB and International Airport. Saw kimshi cab after curfew shot with quad 50 cal. when driving around back of airport with load of women. Our Sergeant (Spec. 5) stepped on Korean war Landmine top of mountain somewhere near camp page. blew off toes and was air lifted out, never saw him again. Top of mountain had not been visited since Korean war. Home base was R401 outside of Wonju. ROK Air force training for Light plane. 407th company B (i think) was moved from Kimpo AFB to R401 around my arrival in country. We occupied an old Army air force compound. We traded with the Rok AF trainees Budweiser for moklee? rice wine through the fence. Traveled all over the country setting up com links on top of mountains near AF Radar and microwave links at Dartboard, Punsan/Busan, Camp Page, Camp Long and many others I don't remember at this time.
In the last 5 years I have had 2 tumors removed from temple area. Basil cell cancer on face removed. I do have symptoms of A Orange and have a lawyer (recently).
I don't see any one from 407th or any unit listed under Army Units. Anyone there remember 8th Army 407th Sig. Bat.? We (31N's) were transfered to 401th for a couple of months.
