DAUGHTER IN KOREA LOOKING FOR AMERICAN FATHER

MICHAEL NUTTER wrote on June 29, 2010

Service or Relationship: AIR FORCE VETERAN

Comments: A daughter named "Angel" in Korea (born May 1974) is looking for her American father who was stationed in Korea (Paju-Munsan) area in 1973-1978. According to her relatives, her American father did tried to search for her on the Korean newspaper sometime in 1978. Currently, she has no living family or relatives in Korea. The American father, if living, would be the only surviving family member to her. Appreciate an email if anyone know about this.

Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN

Comments: On August 18, 1976, I worked for the UNC, USFK, EUSA, J-2 in the Combined Intelligence Center - Korea as a Side Looking Airborne Radar Imagery Analyst. I was responsible for the interpretation of of imagery taken along the DMZ by U.S. Army Mohawk surveillance aircraft.
I started work that day at 1830 hrs and finished about 1100 hrs, 19 August. I worked reading the film, plotting it and doing the interpretation reports that went to all commands within the UNC, USFK, and EUSA. During these days I worked approximately 19 hours a day, total for the ten days was approximately 192 hours.
Each year around the anniversary I remember the incident as if it were yesterday. Each time I visit Korea I try to go to Pan Mun Jom to pay my respects to the men who were brutally murdered that day. They are not and will not be forgotten by me.

Comments: Have you all noticed how few there are of any living Buccaneers of the 1/32 INF?
It just seems to me that most of us all died off or are dieing off very quickly.
Our sister unit of the 1/9 manchus seem to be doing alot better than we Buccaneers.
Any thoughts of what caused this to happen?
For my end of things, I just feel lucky (not the lucky club) to be one of the last still alive.

I was in B company.

One of them being a Q-hut with oil heat, and the other was a barracks building that we shared with the Army personnel. I remember house boys that you could not trust, and sharing our shower space with tiny little tree frogs, and of course the NCO club and the village.

Keywords: I was stationed (or maybe I should say co-
located) with the 547th Engr Co (Float Bridge) at Camp
Mercer, Korea from July 1963 to April 1964. I was with
USACDK (US Army Chemical Depot Korea) and we occupied
the two warehouses on the right and the one on the left
as you came in the main gate. We occupied the "new"
ciderblock barracks just below the water tower at the
back gate (which was always locked) and had the orderly
room on the other end of the building from that of the
547th which was closest to the fence-line. In
March/April 1964 USACDK moved to Camp Carroll in
Waegwan (reason Chemical Depot was too close to DMZ, or
so they said). We dug a pit with a bulldozer - doned
rubber suits and gas masks and dump every imaginable
chemical - hundreds of gallons if not more - into the
ground on a knoll behind the second storage warehouse
on the right. Yet, when I returned to Korea and
revisited Camp Mercer in 1978, I saw no noticeable
change in the surrounding country side plant-life-wise
which I found surprising. Camp Mercer had not changed
at all from 1964 to 1978-80 when I returned althought
the village outside the gate had. I still have a
company crest of the 547th Engr Float Bridge company,
tokens we used in the slot machines at the club and
lots of photos. I remember the only Special Forces Det
in Korea was co-located with us. I am trying to locate
guys with USACDK including SSG Earle Foster, Jim
Sparks, lst Lt Kem (US Army), and of the MPs including
Everly, Grulke, Spears, Connear, Barnes and others.
Also would like to contact anyone else there in the
60's. More to come. Ray Bows, M/Sgt retired (Pvt-2 to
SP4 back then)
