I was the radio operator on duty with Commanding officer of TNT (tunnel neutralization team). Cant remember the Major's name....he was a giant of a man....former special forces. Our radio and command was set up within about 100 meters from North Korean outpost. We were in the S Korean Buffer zone in a small trailer. when off duty lived in a tent not far away....got freakin' cold in the winter there. Anyway, looking for anyone that was part of TNT. We did attend a dinner in our honor in Seoul months later attended by Park Chung Hee....(killed by own CIA not long before I left country.

Comments: Looking for anyone who was caught in race riot of summer of 1972 at TDC or knew it happened and willing to verify that. It started at the Lucky Club and guys could not get to base without being caught in the riot. Do any of you at least remember the month? We are trying to find old news articles or anything that will verify it happened. The village was off limits for two weeks over one other racial incident. I am Larry Goble's wife and I am trying ot help him find some of his old friends. He has PTSD. What about any of you? Any health problems? Please e-mail us if you can help or if you just want to make contact with Larry. Thank You, Mrs Goble

Comments:

Keywords: I was stationed (or maybe I should say co-
located) with the 547th Engr Co (Float Bridge) at Camp
Mercer, Korea from July 1963 to April 1964. I was with
USACDK (US Army Chemical Depot Korea) and we occupied
the two warehouses on the right and the one on the left
as you came in the main gate. We occupied the "new"
ciderblock barracks just below the water tower at the
back gate (which was always locked) and had the orderly
room on the other end of the building from that of the
547th which was closest to the fence-line. In
March/April 1964 USACDK moved to Camp Carroll in
Waegwan (reason Chemical Depot was too close to DMZ, or
so they said). We dug a pit with a bulldozer - doned
rubber suits and gas masks and dump every imaginable
chemical - hundreds of gallons if not more - into the
ground on a knoll behind the second storage warehouse
on the right. Yet, when I returned to Korea and
revisited Camp Mercer in 1978, I saw no noticeable
change in the surrounding country side plant-life-wise
which I found surprising. Camp Mercer had not changed
at all from 1964 to 1978-80 when I returned althought
the village outside the gate had. I still have a
company crest of the 547th Engr Float Bridge company,
tokens we used in the slot machines at the club and
lots of photos. I remember the only Special Forces Det
in Korea was co-located with us. I am trying to locate
guys with USACDK including SSG Earle Foster, Jim
Sparks, lst Lt Kem (US Army), and of the MPs including
Everly, Grulke, Spears, Connear, Barnes and others.
Also would like to contact anyone else there in the
60's. More to come. Ray Bows, M/Sgt retired (Pvt-2 to
SP4 back then)

ARMY BRAT REMEMBERS IT ALL, WELL TRAVELED WITH DAD

THOMAS KIELTY III wrote on January 22, 2010

Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER

Comments: Greetings Soldiers, It's great to see a website such as this which brings back so many memories of my childhood. That's right, I was just a brat back then, 1972-78, but I remember it all. My Dad was stationed in Yongsan Garrison working for a company called St. Louis High School, which would assist GI's to get their H.S. diploma. During any days off from school,I would tag along with him as we headed into the Northern corridor visiting the various Army camps that dot the route. We would start at Howze and work our way up past the "bridge" to Greaves and sometimes a quick juant into 4P1 or below Panmunjom to stop at the PX or fill up the gas tank. I remember the tank traps along the route, the mine fields, and the occasional mosquito plane that would circle above us. We we would stop at a particular camp I would hang out at the education center or find the O club to find a pooltable and a game. I loved it when there was a heliport at the base, cause I would usually catch a General coming in with his 100 or so Helicopter entourage, especially when it was a graduation ceremony. Oh the cans of Oly and Falstaf would pile-up on those days. I was there during the "ax" Tree attack, the "don't take my photo attack -(Panmunjon) and the assination of both Park's Husband and Wife, the Habu fly overs, and the few 50 or 100 cannon salutes. I was only 10 when I arrived in the ROK, but what memories I have forever taken with me, so many stories, and so many faces I have seen. I salute you,the servicemen and women who were station there then and now, that you risk your lives on foreign soil to protect us here stateside. The stories you tell, can only be understood by a certain few, the ones who were there.

Comments: I am looking for pictures of Camp Red Cloud from the 50s, through the 80s. I have a web page about the camp, and have very few pictures from the early years.

Here is the web page.

If you have any pictures, you can email them to me to the address at the bottom of that page.

Thanks,
Bruce
