Comments: I arrived at Korea on November,1964, and was stationed at Camp McGovern with duty at PSC#3. On March of 1965 we relocated to Camp Ross to merge with PSC#2. It was in the month of June that I requested and was granted a transfer to the 1/12 at BLV as an orderly room clerk. It was during this time, July, that the 1st Cav reflagged to the 2nd ID, so that we became the 2/38 2nd ID. I am searching for buddies from all of these duty stations.

Has anyone tried to find the place on a map. 509th ASA has a map that shows the "nullori" river, a fork off the Imjin, other than that, the place might as well have never existed. If anyone knows of an online map that shows where the place was, please email me, i'm thinking of taking a trip back there and would like to see where I slept half the time.

Nam got all the attetion and maybe well it should but now it's our turn to at least be recognized. More investigating needs to be done on agent orange and gama goblin and God only knows what else they gave us in those drinks in the mess hall. Seems I'm learning alot of guy's got screwed up over there and can't get the V.A. to do anything about it. Gary Owen~!

Comments: Proud to serve at 19 yrs old I was drafted and sure I was headed for nam, but my older brother was already there so I went to korea, and got my hazard fire pay anyway. We used to say nam didn't have anything on Korea,we were still at war just not the number of casulties. I will never forget the 9 man work patrol party putting up MDL markers on the north side of the fence on that cold march afternoon 3-15-69. The North koreans ambushed them killing the RTO and the Medic, we were strike force called to go in and get them out. As the medavac chopper took off, sudenly it blew up killing all aboard. thanks to all my buddies who were there that night, and through a rough 13 months.

Comments: I was stationed in Korea in January of 1990, and by the end of Feburary we were up in the DMZ for the 3 month rotation. At the time it was called "Warrior Base" but it's no longer there from what I here. I actualy did three rotations because 2/503 disbanded when we got back, and I went to the unit that relieved us, so I went back up again for a second rotation. Then when we came back from that rotation the mechanized unit I was in got rid of all the leg infantry guys, so we went to a leg unit and that unit was allready on the DMZ so I only spent about 1 1/2 months up there with them....definatly saw my share of communists and the DMZ.....it was fun though I realy enjoyed patrolling. I was on all three American guard posts, "Guard Post 128" "Guard Post Collier" and "Guard Post Ollete".....

We were part of the Army Security Agency's Far East Net as well s the Korea Local Net.

Anyone stationed there at that time? I remember some other units at K-6. 6th Trans Helicopter Co; 55th Helo Maint.Co. 44th Missle Bn and the 2nd Eng Bn. The "Lower 4" Club was the scene of several scuffles between the various units. Except for the 44th Arty, most of the other units were gentlemen.

Gate#5 Yong-son Spring '70

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
GEORGE (CANADA) MacRae wrote on 2000-09-10 01:12:18.0

Comments: We were short of people. 'Nam needed bodies. Yong-son Gate#5 was the 8th Army main gate. 12 hours on 12 off with 24 off when you rotated to the other shift. Gate#5 had lots of traffic, 7 General Grade Officers on post. Too much time on my hands. A Senators son 2nd Lt was on general staff. Every night he would ride back to south post with the 4star and act like the salute was his. Every morning at 05:45 he would come thru the gate on the way to HQ. Every morning I hung one on him, he would come off the sidewalk with pride and power. One morning my partner and I made a great deal of movement as he came down the hill from southpost. The Gateshack was in the middle of the road. As he approached we hid and at the right time barked out "Good morning, Sir!" he brought his up and looked around to the sound but there was nobody there, he slowly let his salute fall but all was not right. We watched from cover and he kept looking back. That afternoon he rode back with the 4star and we stopped traffic, blew our whistles and laid a good one on the General, he was pleased, the 2Lt had a puzzled look on his face. The next morning he came down the hill and we were nowhere to be seen. When he cut between the oak trees we came out behind him and layed one on, accompanied by a loud and proud "Good morning, Sir!" This guy was obviously West Point because he looked around first before returning the salute (couldn't fool this guy twice) and there we were, two shiny MPs waiting for him to return our salute. A big smile came over his face, he brought his hand up in the snappy salute he was trained for. And walked right into the oak tree, held the salute all the way to the ground. We were well trained too, we didn't bust out laughing until we were behind the gate shack. After that the Lt used gate#7.

Comments: THis is a message about my brother who served in the 2nd Inf. and was a combat engineer. He served from 1968 to 1969 and was working on the rebuilding of the DMZ. George Terry Morris passed away in 1981, and was always proud of his service to his country, and always talked about his friends he served with. It is with sadness that there was no one to let know what happened to him. I know that after over 35 years that I have finally had to deal with the things that happened during my Viet Nam service. I was in Nam while George was in Korea, he was my best friend and I am quite sure that he was a friend to you too.

Comments: Hello Sir,

We are trying to find two of Chuck Norris' Air Force buddies that he served with in Korea and surprise Chuck by flying them out to the American Veteran Awards Show on 12/12/00 honoring him as "veteran of the Year." I don't have alot of info.... but here's what I've got:

Joe Weeks - last known to be in Arkansas... possibly now Tennessee Frank Heightman - last known to be in Colorado

BTW, Chuck's real name is Carlos Ray Norris. Carlos Ray Norris "Chuck" enlisted in the USAF on 8-13-58. He attended basic training and air police school at Lackland AFB in TX. He was 1st assigned to AZ then in April '60 to Osan, Korea as an air policeman w/ the 6314th Air Police Squadron. He discarged as an airman 1st class from March AFB in CA on 8-12-62. He was awarded the good conduct medal.

Please confirm you received this and advise if you can assist. Thanks!

Comments: Arthur I noticed your posting but no email address to contact you. If you are the person I think I remember your base camp was next to K14 Kimpo Airbase (Osiree), Korea. Was you at Yang-yi. I think that was the name of the little village where we confiscated the old schoolhouse built over the little creek as living quarters? Also, we had three or four tents. If you are the correct person, please contact me. PS do you remember the guy with the nickname "Jocko" - thats me. Hope to hear from you.

STEPCHILD

Will Johnson wrote on 2000-07-19 17:27:58.0

Comments: It's time for us to quit being the stepchild of the Viet Nam War. Our dead and wounded deserve more and now with Agent Orange we also deserve more. Colonel Clark and other officers of the time know the truth and it's time for them to speak out. General Bonesteel had his "Rules of Engagement" and the public has a right to know what they were. Once the word is out, the concern over recognition will also be known. No one in my unit received any medals for merit or valor, and we worked our butts off. We didn't just work in the finance office either.

Comments: I served from Feb 68 to June 69 - 4 months north of the Imjin River, then 4 months south, rotating back and forth for 16 months (I extended). 6 members of my platoon (3rd herd) were shot in the summer of '68 in 3 separate firefights - 2 of them died. 2 guys from another unit were killed in my company's area of the DMZ when their jeep was ambushed in Sept '68. I've found the mother of one. I've found the mother and daughter of my buddy, Michael Rymarczuk (KIA DMZ 7/30/68). Just a couple of years ago I learned agent orange was sprayed in the DMZ when we were there. I knew about the spraying, I saw Koreans hand cranking a herbicide, but I wanted the bushes killed so Joe couldn't hide in them...I had never heard of agent orange in '68. When I did hear about it being used in Vietnam, I never connected it with the hand spraying I saw in the DMZ of Korea in '68. Now I know and I trying to get the agent orange act of 1991 to include Korean DMZ vets. We can't even get an agent orange exam at a VA hospital because we were not in Vietnam. That's wrong for us to be treated like this, and I'm going to see that it's changed by congress. Join the DMZ vets if you served in Korea after the war was "over" in 1953. Contact me and I'll add you to the roster. David Benbow

Comments: Not a vet myself, but my dad (Sgt. Jim Olson from Nebraska) spent 13 months stationed on the DMZ in '68 and 69' and my grandfather was a Captain in WWII. Just wanted to tell all of you guys that I truly appreciate the sacrifice you and so many others before you made for our country. You deserve so much more credit than you've gotten. HUGE thanks to all of you.

Comments: Did anyone possibly serve in the 24th Psyops Korea, near Yonsan Garrison, at some point after 1961? This unit started out as the 107th RB&L Battalion under the UN emblem, name changed several times. Was at foot of Walker Hill, with a MP Sentry Dog unit adjacent and a unit that handled all the AR Pamphlets and books, dont remember the name. Trying to run down some kind of history on the above units, but have run into brick wall, no one seems to know anything about them, I was there in 1960-61, but cant find anyone else that was. Thanks.

Comments: I am looking for men who were stationed during the mid to late 1960's around the 51st Signal Battalion. My dad, Perry Jarvis, is battling with a muscle disease that they can't identify. He has the symptoms of Agent Orange poisioning. If anyone can remember the foliage dying due to them spraying, or any other memories that might be relevant, no matter how small...please contact me.
