Comments: I was at camp Page from 62 to 63 and walked a whole lot of miles in the snow, but I was young and could handle it. I remember some things about the DMZ, like looking through gun placement sights at the North Koreans looking back at me. Sound odd don't it, Signal man doing this, but we were combat ready, and a very strike outfit. I sure miss seeing the Honest John. Sure looks like we at that time could have a little more recongized. I admire all Veterens. We were there. May God-Bless us all. If anyone knows of any medals I might have earned, shoot me line. I am just now getting around on the computer, and man there is another world out there. I guess I got old quick. Later on Buddies, Sam Snyder Signal maker and anything else the Army wanted me to do.

Jim Phillips wrote on 2001-08-01 23:13:15.0
Comments: Was on a nostalgia kick tonight as a result of a special I watched on PBS about Korea. I have been in this Korea Web Site before and have enjoyed going through it. I was with the 2/76 from Feb '62 until Feb '63 and have many memories of it. Particularly when Pres. Kennedy threw up the blockade around Cuba and we defcon'd out of the compound to our main battle positions which were then over by Munsan-Ni. I was pleasantly surprised to see the entries from personnel who had served at Camp St Barbara. Will always remember the MP sign at the entrance; "The Law North of the 38th." Flew many DMZ missions as an observer, checking out the tunnels in the mountainsides north of us.
I have often wondered what happened at Camp St. Barbara and when it was phased out.

Comments: My name is Tom Bisping and I am the MidStates North Regional Director for the Korea Defense Veterans Alliance. Please be advised that bills have been submitted to the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, for the creation of a service medal for service in Korea after 27 July 1954. In the House the Bill is H.R. 1935. In the Senate the bill is S.999. The Bill is entitled the Korean Defense Service Medal Act. PLEASE do the following: Go to the KDVA website: http://home.att.net/~kdrrc/index.htm Click on the "Legislation" button. See if your Representative or Senators are cosponsors. If they aren't call them and ask them to cosponsor either H.R. 1935 or S.999. Get as many people as you can to do the same. Click on the "Organization" button. Find out what region your state is in and e-mail that Regional Director. This is the best opportunity there has ever been for recognition. Join the fight and be with us as we, "Take The Hill!!!"

For the last 24 years all I heard about is the 3 years my father was in the army. He was stationed in fort hood,tx, fort gordon, ga, and in korea (all I know is that he says the 38th parallel all the time). If anyone could help me I would appreciate it and it would be a huge suprise for my father (from me especially since he says every year for every holiday is that all he wants is to see my sister and I in boot camp!!) My fathers name is George "zeke" Gresock from Numine, Pa--He served from 68-71 and was an army seargent. Thank you!

How could I, all you rotten villages rats got all the passes. Trying to locate a RALPH LOPEZ. He and a KATUSA got wounded real bad when a non existent grenade was thrown by a non existent NK infiltrator. This is an update from message 11370. For your smiles how about the bar in PAJARI. Comments: I was stationed at the academy Feb 66-Dec 66 while MAJ Hadley Foster commanded. Because I was his driver, I got to see a lot of Korea, especially along the DMZ and north of the 38th. After Foster rotated, I was transferred to HHC 127th Sig Bn at Camp Casey, LTC Fox commanding. Stayed until late March 67 when I went back to the world. There's a great 127th site at www.johnbe.com/korea1.html, but I can find nothing about the academy. Anybody remember it? Long time ago, but some things are still fresh, like the Nov 66 ambush. I'm glad others still remember.

Comments: There are little or no mention of battles that we fought by elements of the 7 Div that had a Brig attached to the 2nd Div from 67-69. The 3Brig was attached to the 2nd Div as the 4th Brig . 2/31 was involed in at lest 2 situations that are not mentioned. One was in 67 when we sent work parties up to the Z and they got shot up by NKCOM troops and the there was a big fire fight on 22or 23 March 68 that had over 100 bodys on the ground at dark and then nothing the nextday. There were sweeps made and we found mines and other things that the NKCOMS left behind. I think that these need to brought out . It was thruoght for many years that the Korean were doing tunnels but it wasn't proved till many years later.

6th Aviation Platoon |

Comments: I found someone who was in the 6th Aviation Platoon. I've pasted what he told me about the platoon below. He served in it as a pilot for a few months in 1967.

Subject: Re: 6th Aviation Platoon To: mdavino@yahoo.com
The 6th Aviation Platoon was formed in 1967 in Korea. We had formed a lift company at Fort Bragg for a few months of training and then movement to Vietnam. I was a very young W-1 along with many other rooky pilots. We had shipped all equipment and aircraft to California for boat movement to Vietnam. We went on vacation before the personnel were to move. When we came back off vacation, the 1st Platoon was pulled from the movement. A month later the 1st Platoon was flown to korea were we picked up our hueys and became the 6th Aviation Platoon.
We were assigned to I Corps and our primary mission was to train the Korean soldiers or the 1st ROC Division on how to get on and off helicopters in anticipation of their movement to Vietnam. We also flew support missions for US Army units when the "big" North Korean infiltration occurred. Other than the huey used for the 8th Army Commander, we had the only US Army Hueys in Korea.
I only stayed with the Platoon for a couple of months before I was selected to be the Pilot for the 2nd Infantry Division Commanding General.
My friends in the Platoon flew several emergency support missions for the 2nd Division. When I rotated out of county, the platoon was still active in Korea.
I hope this helps. If you need additional info, contact me.
Bob Cadarr Major, MP (Retired)

1968 Search Frustration |

Marsha Brown wrote on 2001-03-29 14:05:02.0
Comments: My search is a daily frustration on being unable to locate just one of the soldiers in the 6th Aviation Platoon located at either Camp Page or Camp Red Cloud in 1968. I've been all over the internet, all over the world in fact and can't find anyone who remembers this platoon. I'm all over this website too. I get bits and pieces and no one is for sure about anything. One listing has a Gary Holz dieing in a helicopter crash on the same day, 27Nov1968 and this one says Gary Holz was from Wisconsin. I believe this might be a type-O, no one can tell me. Is there anyone out there who remembers the 6th Aviation Platoon? Even the Army can't seem to help.
