Gary Chandler wrote on 2008-04-02 19:41:35.0
Comments: My name is Gary Chandler and I am having problems with proving that I was exposed to Agent Orange while I was in Korea from 1966 1967. The VA says you have to have valid proof in order to get the compensation that you are claiming. I was stationed at Camp Carroll Depot in Waigwam Korea and I was a depot level mechanic. I am trying to show that as a depot level mechanic that the equipment that we were repairing that came from Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia was contaminated with Agent Orange and other defoliants that were used from the other Asian countries. The VA says prove it. I have had for the last 20 yrs Diabetes; heart problem; high blood pressure; severe skin problems and I need to find out if there were any other soldiers that were in Korea during this time period that were working on equipment from Vietnam; Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. If you can help me I can be reached at: chandlergary@att.net .

William Kenney wrote on 2008-03-17 14:14:49.0
Comments: I am seeking information on use of toxin in any year in South Korea. There are many different types of toxin, agent orange is only the most regonizabled one. The are desal fumes in confined spaces, DDT on wool products, cleaning fluids, The water we drank, cooked and washed with. The air we breathed, and what was sprayed on our areas where we were required to be present. I am interested in reports where our troops witnessed the use of toxins and in some cases , sprayed it themselves. We need to combine our reports to go to congress together, seperatly we will only fail. It is time to team up and win our cases.

The news was all about what was happening in Viet Nam. Nobody read about the fire fights on the DMZ, mines left over from the War and helicopters shot done by the North.
Don't think about it much anymore but do remember.

Comments: My name is Arika and I am looking for information for my Grandpaw, John Dean Taylor. His memory isn't very clear but I can tell he'd like to remember facts. On top of that, the VA is not helping him at all. And he does need to give them facts. Remember the actually killing isn't going to get him what he needs. It's sad to hear the stories and see him upset so I'd like to hand him a few if not a stack of papers on his unit. He was drafted right before his wife had their first baby and came back two years later. Any help would be a lot of help. Thanks guys

Comments: I don't remember exactly when our unit was sent to the DMZ. It was sometime early in 1967. I spent my 21st Birthday in the DMZ. I still remember the cold nights, the Muddy roads and when we were at the OP the Big Rats that ran over our sleeping bags when we tried to sleep.

Comments: I'm interested if anyone knows when agent orange was brought into Korea and where it was stored. I spent some time on the DMZ and know that the government has awarded help to children of those who served on the DMZ between sept. 1, 1967 and aug. 31, 1971. I don't understand where the date april 1968 came from because they are directly contradicting themselves. If anyone knows more about this please EMAIL me at thesaxtons@juno.com. Thanks, Tom Saxton

Comments: I served in this unit near the DMZ 12/61 to 4/62 and amlooking for history on the unit. We were attached to the 1st Cav. Div. But I read the 1st Cav. history, no mention of the period '60 to '62 being in Korea...
I know I was there and remember Cyrus Vance's visit to Bridge of no return and to the village at the DMZ.
Where can get this history and read about that time period and the 1st cav div. during this time period.

Comments: I am researching the units that served as Air Defense Artillery in Korea any year. I am trying to build a history of our units as to who we were and what we did. Because of our MOS, the military does not give our men the same rights and benifits as the others around us. It is time to stand up and be counted.

We want to supply as much information as possible to a congrssman who has offered to help us. Instead of each of us going it alone and getting no where I am trying to collect as much information as possible in one place to try to make a impact.
