Comments: My Daddy John Thomas Walker was in Korea in 1967-1968,
He recently died with prostate cancer. I was born 1969
with what was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, But in
order for me to have this it should be Genetic on both
sides of the family but it was not. I'm severely
handicapped. I found out some disturbing news today.
We went to the VA today to put in for his Grave foot
Marker, we ended up being there for 4 hours, we found
out Daddy was exposed to Agent Orange. They told Us
that was likely the reason he got prostate cancer and
the reason I was born with Handicapped. The Army knew
it was dangerous poison but used it any way. It was
sprayed to kill all vegetation, Trees etc... so the
Vietnamese couldn't hide and to flush them out of their
villages. Daddy was living near one of those villages,
he told me that during what they called a field mission
he was over come by the fumes and passed out he would
have died but a Korean lady found him and got him help.
If I can prove that he was near the DMZ The VA may help
with my medical bills. I know he worked in the Motor
Pool and I think he was at camp mackenzie maybe in
seoul barbara or kimpo. Does anybody know if this was
near the DMZ?

L. Wright placed me in Headquarters B Company as
Operations Clerk. I stayed there until Sgt Wright
was reassigned. I was then sent out to work in the
field as Heavy Equipment Operator on the DMZ. We were
building new bunkers and moving a fence 30 meters
north of the existing fence. I worked on the Zone
and drew hazardous duty pay in the amount of 65.00
extra a month. I had the option to leave on my
original departure date, or extend a few months and
get what they called an early out. When I left Korea
I was out of the army.

your chance to tell the world just how dangerous it

there in 1965-66. I found a site on facebook called
Korean DMZ Vets. I know that the N.Koreans Agents
were coming across the MDL and causing alot of
trouble for my unit before I got there, and it got
worse over that year of my tour. When I got there the
sector that I was in was just like it was in 1953.The
bush was over grown and wild life was every where and
the MDL markers were connected by tape, so Joe could
hide anywhere. I understand that they used A O after
I left and built a fence.

Comments: Just for those who have questions about the KDSM. I
mailed a Form 180 request about 3 weeks ago (around 2
Sept. 2012) applying for the medal. I included a
copy of my DD214 which did not specifically show
Korean service buty did show 16 months overseas duty
in block 24c. I received a reply yesterday, 25 Sept.
2012 verifying my entitlement to the medal and a
DD215 showing a correction and addition of the KDSM
to my separation records. It also gives you a
website to check on the status of the award. Right
now it states that the award should be shipped to me
in March or April of 2013. I did get a quicker
response than expected.
Those of you that want to apply can google the Form
180 Request Pertaining to Military Records and
print it out. I checked box 1. Other under section
II and wrote Eligibility for Korean Defense Service
Medal. I also checked box 2. Other under section II
and wrote Application for Korean Defense Service
Medal. Apparently this worked. I sent that and a
copy of my DD214 to: U. S. Total Army Personnel

Good luck to other who deserve and apply for this

Comments: I was this Units Medic for 17 months from Feb. 1969
to July 1970. I am suffering from Agent Orange I
believe we at A-7-2 were drinking Agent Orange
tainted water for all those months. We imported our
water
from a local river that its source was up by the DMZ.
We also went on AFU's up to the Hon River and others
up near the DMZ and I believe we were exposed to
Agent Orange when in the field and for us who visited
or T.D.Y'd to Camp Humpreys I have read it was spayed
many times too. It would be good to hear from any of
the old Unit A-7-2. Your old Medic Mike

Comments: I was assigned to Mortar Platoon, CS Co. just inside
the Spoonbill area from Jan. 1960-April 1961. I have
a few pictures from that time, but I would like to
know what Camp we were assigned to. I do not
remember the name of the camp. Some of the troops
were Sgt. Byrum, PFC Hill, and I think one of the
draftees was named Amundson or something like that.
Would like to know the name of the Camp and contact
with anyone else from that time and area.
