Comments: Looking for anyone who served in unit, from Oct.68-
Dec69. I was in line platoon, and a driver, took MANY
patrols out on that mountain road on the DMZ.Spent a
lot of time on GP Beryl. Back in those days you went
there for punishment. I remember flippin the finger
to the NK's up on their hill, and how chopped up it
got when they opened fire on it when the patrol was
ambushed, when they were painting MDL signs. Looking
for Boone, Godbolt, Rudy, and Doc Torres. They are
the only names I remember, except for Platoon Sgt.
Chisolm.

Sather, a fellow soldier, who saved my life . I had
swam out to a boat that was stalled in the river and
could not make it to the boat because the current was
too swift. Sp/4 Sather , who was in the boat, removed
his boots and jumped in after me. He held me above
water and swam to the shore with me in tow. I forgot

Comments: My name is SSG Ervin Carpenter, retired. I was with
the 2/23 at Camp Greaves, the first camp on the right
as you crossed north on Freedom Bridge. Our LT. was
Ribaro and our patrol was known as Ribaro's Rats. 24
on 24 off. I was known as the Duck because I was
ready to swim the Im Jim should the North Jump! Our
guard post, GP, was GP Jane. I spent most of my time
on GP Jane and patrolling the DMZ. I still have my Im
Jim Scout patch and certificate. I believe we got
that by attending ACTA at the DMZ training site. I
was on GP Jane the day the North Koreans started a
huge rice paddy fire so we could not take pictures of
a huge tunnel they were digging. I understand that
years later they found the exit to the tunnel in the
south. HQ thought we were nuts to think they would
even think of digging a tunnel to the south. I still
have the pictures I took of the dig.
I remember that while we were on patrol we would stop
at position Bingo, Wootens Run, and many others. I
remember people like Sgt. Brown, Sgt. Cox, Lt.
Ribaro, Sgt. Collus. I also remember moving between
Camp Greaves in the north and Camp Lawton in the
south. I departed from Camp Lawton in 1969 and
headed home. I left many friends behind.
Anyone with the same memories please write! Many
more memories to share!

We are trying to find the surname of my husband's
father. The information we have is his first name was
Glenn or Glen, he was from Florida from an orange
plantation and only child. He was stationed in Camp
Colbern, Korea until August 1969 - when he was 27
years old (so he must have been born around 1942).
After that he was sent in USAF to Vietnam where he
was either MIA or KIA in 1969 or the beginning of
1970. If anyone remembers him and knows his surname,
we'd love to hear from you so we have a name and
maybe even a face to pay our respects to.
