Bill we served together tho in different platoons.I was a Sgt in a rifle platoon with Sgts' Fred East,Wayne Davis, Willie Miller, and Hughie Cunningham.I did take my family to Korea in the early 80's and Camp Kaiser was no longer there. I look at our time in Korea as a growing experience for a 18 year old kid. Our time served was good compared to what the troops today have to endure.God bless them. Keywords: Friends--Bill Bartie |

I was with the 2/23 at Camp Greaves, the first camp on the right as you crossed north on Freedom Bridge. Our LT. was Ribaro and our patrol was known as Ribaro's Rats. 24 on 24 off. I was known as the Duck because I was ready to swim the Im Jim should the North Jump! Our guard post, GP, was GP Jane. I spent most of my time on GP Jane and patrolling the DMZ. I still have my Im Jim Scout patch and certificate. I believe we got that by attending ACTA at the DMZ training site. I was on GP Jane the day the North Koreans started a huge rice paddy fire so we could not take pictures of a huge tunnel they were digging. I understand that years later they found the exit to the tunnel in the south. HQ thought we were nuts to think they would even think of digging a tunnel to the south. I still have the pictures I took of the dig. I remember that while we were on patrol we would stop at position Bingo, Wootens Run, and many others. I remember people like Sgt. Brown, Sgt. Cox, Lt. Ribaro, Sgt. Collus. I also remember moving between Camp Greaves in the north and Camp Lawton in the south. I departed from Camp Lawton in 1969 and headed home. I left many friends behind.
