Comments: My father was always proud to be a veteran. He was proud to have served his country. I don't know what unti he served in: that's not something he ever shared with me. He was in the Signal Corps.
My father died on May 20, 1999, in his home town, Lewistown, Montana. His name is Robert(Bud) Francis Stern. I will remember him and miss him all the days of my life. A loving daughter, Punkin

Comments: 1/Lt. Robert A. Ford, Jr. was killed in Korea on March 11, 1957 after being extended over in Korea longer than he was supposed to serve due to the fact that he had been accepted to attend the University of Illinois to get his Masters Degree. They didn't know what to do with him before school started so they held him over there longer than he should have been there; consequently he was killed because of a faulty plane he was flying.[o-0````````````````

Comments: My father, M/Sct Wirt Barthel served in the 45 Infantry Division, 1st BG 279th Infantry. I have two photographs of all the men located at North Fort Hood Texas. One taken at summer cap 1955 and one taken at summer camp 1959. All I know for sure is that during his service he ran supplies to the front lines. He was in Korea for 3 years. He never spoke of what happened during his service, but during his illness, he would make comments that I am assuming relate to his time served in Korea. I would like some answers to some of these comments. If you can help please e-mail me @ MomaPatiLou@aol.com. Thank you in advance.

Was Chief Op of MARS Radio Station AD4EAR, which was changed to AB4USA and also operated HL9KT Amateur Radio call sign the first to be issued to an American by the Koreans. The station provided message service for any one who wanted it and also some phone patches when conditions warrented it. There were 27 Generals in the area and every time a vehicle came along you had to be ready to salute if the General was in it.

Comments: Like others, I disliked Korea from the first day I arrived...Nov. 30th, 1953. However, in 1974 I visited Expo '74 in Spokane, and say pictures of Seoul and other place I had been. Couldn't believe the change. In 1983, one month after flight 007 was shot down, I returned back to Seoul for one interesting week. This was during the time when 16 cabinette members were killed in Ragoon. We were able to go out to the cementary and view the burial. I took many pictures, although I was asked no to do so. In fact many places pictures were not allowed. We made the trip up to the DMZ, Inchon and other places of interest, including our old compound of the 728 MP Battn. A company. We had taken pictures back in the 50's with us, and shared them with the Korean's at the compound. Tried to find our "houseboy" but didn't now how to do it until, the day before we left. There is a way to do it, as a lot of GI's returning had tried to do the same thing. One group of "limies" found their houseboy who was at the time, the chief of police in Seoul. By all means .....GO. Comments: It is so good to see stories from others who were in the Land of the Morning Calm at the time I was there. As a wide-eyed 17 year old, it was the experience of my life, as I am sure it was for most everyone else who served there. I was there from 1954-1956. I am proud of my service, and even though we were in a "Truce", I feel we made a statement to aggressors everywhere that Americans will "Take a Stand Against You" and stay until the job is done. Although it appears the Korea was the "Forgotten War", you can be sure the North Koreans have not forgotten us.

Comments: JUST AN OLD MAN NEW TO THE INTERNAET. LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON THE 16TH ORD CO.AND 59TH ORD. GRP EIGHTH ARMY.
I was in Korea 14 months, 1955 to 1957. I had one person contact me regarding the 59th Ordnance Group. He was with them, at a later date, in Germany. I've considered contacting the military to see if they can tell me what happened to the 16th Ordnance Co. Because of your e-mail, I've located a picture scrapbook put away years ago. Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing. We were located outside Taegu proper. We were located in a couple of buildings I think was at one time a college. A picture shows a sign "HEADQUARTERS 16th ORDNANCE COMPANY (FM).
The bumper of one of our trucks reads, 59GRP74-O< >16 23. Should I be looking for"74th ORDNANCE something?
I have a Liberty Card dated 11 Jun 56, signed by a Kenneth D. Scott 2nd Lt. Comdg. Stamped across the face of the card is: HEADQUARTERS 59th ORDNANCE GROUP SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.
We had a detachment in Taejon and Puson. I believe KMAG was a couple of miles west of us. K-2 was a few miles east of and I think K-34 (Korean) was southwest. Lon Line Signal was beyond K-34 up one big mother of a mountain.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
