Comments: Will always remember the night of 27 July 53, at2200 hrs the truce went into effect. We fired all the ammo we had including the WP we had been rationing out. I had become the Bn. Operations Chief that A>M>with SFC Bronikowski rotating home. As a salute to him and a best wish to me, the S-3 authorized a "BATTALION RIPPLE" from the 3 firing Batteries. (That's when the timing and command goes down to the guns to fire as rapid as if its a machine gun burst...one gun at a time! Best honor I ever got!. Since I kept the Bn. log book a lot of memories still live with me and am willing to share. Cease fire/end m

Comments: This is a great site for the guys who served after the war and before Korea settled down to what it is today. I was station at Camp Casey in Sept. 1958 & out Oct. 1959. Reasigned to Ft. Riley, Kansas 1959..578th Ord. Co.
We lived in Quanset Huts and had a shower. It was powered by a jeep engine that charged batteries to supply electricity to bildge pumps, from a old tank, that brought water up to a tank that feed the shower unit. It was heated by submersion heaters taken from the mess hall. Very cold Winters and bugs as big a bats in the Summer. Not a nice place. One road, not paved MSR #1.
Locals used to call us,"You're number 10, GI" Does anyone remember ?
Keep the faith !!!

Comments: Captain Franks was the H & S Company Commander for part of the time between May '54 and March '55. There was a Warrant Officer King at Battalion Headquarters. My partner, the Hvy Equipment Platoon Leader, was LT John Budesky. Who were the guys one who played the mandolin and one played the harmonica - a WO and a LT I think? Then there was a Captain who had been in Japan 14 years and spoke Japanese as good as they did. His wife was our leader in putting on a "Broadway Extravaganza" at "The Club" after weeks of practice. She taught a bunch of hairy legged, clumsy, fool-hearted guys how to dress and dance like "chorus girls". What a sight !! (We built a bunch of runways, taxiways and hard stands for aircraft, too.)
Keywords: One name that stands out in my mind, since May 1954 to March 1955 at Itazuki AFB, Japan, is M/Sgt Paul B Huff, Medal of Honor winner. He was H & S Company First Seargent for some part of that period. Does anyone know his whereabouts? At the time he wore a little Hitler-like mustache, as I recall. He would probably be in the late 80's or early 90's of age by now, if he is still alive. He is the only Medal of Honor winner who I have ever met.

This battalion seems to be not only little-known, but almost unknown; I've never seen any reference to it in any history of the Korean war I've read. Of course, the fact that no enemy aircraft got that far south may have had something to do with it! If anyone has information or would like to discuss the matter, I'd be glad to hear from them. Comments: Looking for anyone that may have served with the 107th RB&L Bat. or when the name was changed to Korea Det. US Army B&VA Act. Pacific, APO 301, Seoul, Korea. I served with the latter in 1960-1961 as company and mail clerk. We were a pyswar unit. Using radio broadcast and lealets. We housed the VUNC (voice of united nations command radio) recording studios and broadcast from the DMZ area to the North. I heard when I was there that the former unit was wiped out during war, dont know if this was fact or fiction, I do know we were authorized to wear a Laurel Leaf on cuff of shirt for Merit, but no one was sure why. I have been on net many hours searching for former members of either unit, with no luck. If you were a member or know a member, I would like to correspond. Thanks!!

Comments: My father was CHARLES TRAVIS. Charles was often called "Bud" or "Buddy". I have about 24 pictures of him and some of the guys where he was stationed in Korea. One of these pictures mentions a CAMP CASEY(?). Men listed in these pictures are PETER REA of Schenectady, NY, BOB CZECH (spl?) of Wasa (spl?), Wisconsin, GEORGE BRADY, JAMES DARSEY, CHARLES PLOG (spl?) poss. Charles P. Log(?), also a man named Don who is sitting on a fence with a view of Yokahoma Harbor in the back ground. I believe that dad entered the service in early 1955 and was discharged possibly in early 1957. I know that he spent some time at -" Fort Lewis, Washington" and that he took his training in the 6th Infantry Division, Special Training School, Fort Ord, Calif. from Apr.1955 to June 1955. My father was apparently a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. He died when I was 14 yrs. old, my brother was only 9. His headstone reads PVT. SVC CO 31st Infantry, KOREA. Two years ago, I started our family genealogy. I know very little of Army ways or lingo. If you have information or stories to share, regarding my father, the folks above or this unit......I would appreciate if you might contact me. Many Thanks.... D. Blakley blakley3@earthlink.net

Comments: Being only an "occupation trooper" from Nov 1953 to April 1955, having seen no combat (but seeing the results of combat on the career NCOs and enlisted men who had been there, and would "guide" us through our tour of duty), I have always hesitated to call myself a Korean War veteran. Nonetheless, I was there, even if it was in post-truce Korea. While mild in comparison with that of those who preceded me, it was a life-changing experience. It has been so long ago, all I can remember of Korea is the bitter cold of the place, and the endless mountains. Can't recall Company/Platoon. Few names, hardly any faces come to mind: First Sgt Royster, Tom Brokaw (not that one), John Anderson. It was only many years later that I came to appreciate the sacrifices of those who died, and the losses of those who survived. As we come up to the 50th anniversary next June 25,I would like to have "The Forgotten War" become a permanent part of the historical memory of this nation. We who were not there between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953 can claim no right to be included in that memory. But we do have an obligation to make sure the memory lasts beyond the year 2000.

Comments: I was a trained as 293xx (dit catcher), but as a bilingual (French/English) from Lousy-anna, managed to pick up some PYCCKI.
My clearance was reactived in 1976 (I had retired in 1975) when the Navy cruiser on which I was teaching Spanish for FSU in the MED was ordered to escort a damaged Russian boomer, forced to run on the surface, all the way from the western Med to the Russki anchorage SE of Greece. I was the only person aboard the Navy ship with ANY Russian language experience!

Comments: I was with the 24th Div, MP Co. and E Co., 21st Inf, in 1955-56 and I am the webmaster for the 24ID Assn web site. We manned three DMZ Outposts for observation. I remember OP Maisie and OP Cherry Herring. I cannot remember the name of the third outpost. I need help identifying it. I am writing the history section for the Division between 1953 and 1957 and this is a vital part of it. Anyone who has this info and anything regarding duty at these locations, please contact me. Thanks very much.
