Comments: I am looking for information about my grandfather Richard L. Stanton and his first wife, my biological grandmother Kyoko Suto(Sudo) Stanton. I believe he was in Japan between 1953 and 1957. They were married in 1953. He called her "Candy", and they had two sons Donald and Ronald( they went by Donnie and Mickey). If anyone has any information about my grandfather and his first wife please contact me. Thank You

Comments: I feel very sorry for the troops in Iraq if their treated like the Vets from Korea. I did dem. work with C3, Nitrostarch, primer cord with no hearing protection. Went to get hearing aid and was told that the VA had stopped giving glasses and hearing aids cause it was costing the Gov. to much money............WOW WHEN WE'RE ALL GONE THEY WILL DO LIKE THEY DID FOR WW 2 VETS. To little to late.. Keep the faith.

LOOKING FOR MY GRANDFATHER

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
SHANDA DICKSON wrote on 2004-11-23 12:21:43.0

Comments: I am researching Army photos from 1959 in Seoul Korea in a search to find my grandfather. My grandmother was a native of Korea in 1958-59 when she met a young Italian/Greek Army soldier and George from New Jersey/New York that she fell in love with and not long after that she was pregnant with my mother. When the young solider went back to the U.S., he wrote my grandmother and sent money for my mother. My grandmother’s stepfather did not approve of the situation so he wrote my grandfather back and told him that my grandmother and my mother had died. So, my grandfather has no idea that his daughter is alive and living in Atlanta, Georgia.

We are not sure of his last name due to the language difference between the two, but we have a picture of him and know his first name was George from New Jersey/New York, Italian or Greek and was stationed in Seoul, Korea in 1958/59. Since you had photos from and around this time, I was wondering if you were able to give my any helpful information that would help me find my grandfather. I do know he was around 6’0-6’2, dark hair and we also know he maybe had an usually last name, maybe Italian. Thank you so much for your time!

PATRICIA Robbins wrote on 2004-10-10 17:29:34.0

Comments: I am looking for anyone who might have known or served with my brother Boyd E. Tucker. He was at Fort Riley, Kansas in Feb. of 1950, then on to Camp Stoneman, California in May, 1950 and from there he was shipped to Japan for Occupation Duty. I don't know where he was stationed in Japan when the Korean War started. His 24th Infantry Division was one of the first ground troops to be deployed to Korea. He was KIA at the Battle of Kum River on 7/14/50. I am just now getting the information about his death and how he died. I would like to hear from anyone who might have known him while he was at Fort Riley, Camp Stoneman, Japan and the early part of the Korean War before his death. Please email with any info, large or small. Thank you!

EARLY PANMUNJOM

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
David E. (Dave) Miles wrote on 2004-09-17 21:26:42.0

Comments: I was at Panmunjom summer of 1952 and have many pics and a few stories. As it was rather primative when I was there the Engineers tried to "pretty up" the area around the meeting tents. Set up twin guard shacks for the MPs to stand in out of the weather during the meetings. Made a walkway with stones to the latrine out back and planted small bushes around to improve the UN area. When the chinese/NKs saw this they built guard shacks for their guards but made them about a foot taller than ours. And they brought in full grown trees to plant to outdo ours. They brought them in a truck. The day they finished planting these trees in the afternoon and the delegates had already gone back to Munsan for the night, we were out on the road by the bridge of no return playing catch. We looked up and here comes the chinese truck barreling down the road toward us and he crossed the bridge of no return and surrendered to the Marines down the road. Shortly after he went by, two jeeps of Chinese came tering down the road but stopped short of the Marines. At the next days meeting the Chinese accused us of kidnapping the driver and the truck. For days afterwards the Chinese guards would walk around in our area peeking in our tents for the "kidnapped" soldier.
