He never talked about the Korean War. and through the inter net and the Chosin Reservoir Detachment Casket and Funeral Guard in Cincinnati, Ohio, who stood guard at his visitation, I know now how much of a hero he was. His bio will be published in the Chosin News after April 1st 2009 and will tell a small story of his time there from being shot in the leg to frost bit fingers and toes in the -20 degree weather. He was a machine gunner for B co. 1/7. If any one cares they can pull that up that site. Also anyone that may have known him it would be an honor to hear from you. Also I have found three different patches he may have worn on the net if anyone could help thanks. 1. Magnificent 7th Marines red/gold 2. Same as 1 but has top scrool 1st marine div FMF bottom scrool prepare to marck 3. 1st bn 7th marines scrool on top first team, inside patch 1 7 separated by gold lightning bolt and Pride Loyalty devotion surrounding 1/7. Jon Leppo wrote on 2007-02-03 14:57:26.0
Comments: This request is probably an unusual one, but it pertains to the period in history that you all are concerned with. I recently acquired an M-1 Garand rifle. From the serial number I found that it had been built in 1943, and another search turned up a serial number sequence that indicates it was likely re-arsenaled during the Korean War in August 1951. It had probably been assigned to HQ CO, FMF PAC. I was never in the Military myself, so I don't know exactly what that designation means. My father was in the military, a belly turret gunner in B-17's during WWII (15th out of Foggia, Italy - bombed the Ploesti oil fields in Romania) and was a gunnery instructor stateside during the Korean War. I was hoping to get some idea as to what HQ CO, FMF PAC's mission would have been in 1951, where it was located, anything I can learn. Thanks for your help.

When asked about M.A.S.H.unit in Korea. |

 |
Dennis Colby wrote on 2006-10-21 15:44:02.0
Comments: When I asked my father about the show M.A.S.H., he told me briefly about an experience in Korea. He doesn't talk much about his war stories so I remember this very well as told to me over 30 years ago. My father's name is Cliff Colby and while serving for the Corps he was nicked in the head by a bullet during an engagement in Korea. He told me while he was recouperating at a M.A.S.H. unit ,during or near Christmas time, when able to walk on his own he was offered some home made hooch that kicked his butt. When he staggered back toward his tent and rack he passed out in a snow bank. Thank God he was found and taken inside to his bed before freezing to death. My father is not a liar and is a hero for his actions in Vietnam serving three tours. I am grateful for whomever helped my father to a warm tent to finish his recovery. If there is anyone who knows my Dad and any stories associated with his tours fighting for our country in Korea or Vietnam, please email me as he still doesn't talk much about his experiences. I want to learn as much as I can while my Father "a hero" is still with us on this Earth ,so I can honor him and all military hero's that much more. Thank you.

Comments: I never knew my father while I was an adult. He served active duty from 1926-1953, retired in 1953 and died in 1969. I spent twenty years in the Air Force but only because I knew my family had already produced the best Marine it could. I would like to contact anyone who knew my father in WWII, Korea or anytime in his USMC career. We will never forget the sacrifices of those who came before us. Sempre Fi!

I am a Veteran Advocate trying to find anything I can to prove that his suffered a broken ear drum when some low flying missiles came overhead. Trying to get his disability increased but need proof. He stayed in many hospitals and aide stations in Korea. If anyone can remember this Marine and what happened to him, please contact me.

Comments: Please help! I am looking for information on the unit my father Douglas Quinn was assigned to during the Korea War. I don't know anything about it, only that he was in Korea as a US Marine. He passed away in 1987. My father was originally from Canada, but was living in Detroit Michigan at the time of his enlistment, this aided in his becoming a US citizen. I am currently in the Air Force and putting together a family tree for my children and I want them to know the contribution their grandfather made to this country. Also, if anybody has any information on my father-in-law, Mr Bernard Kester aka Jack Kester, this would also be appreciated. He has also since passed away, but he claimed to have served in a unit with Freddy Fender if that is any help to anyone. Thank you very much for any help and thank you all for your service to our country

Comments: Would like to hear from anyone who served in the 2nd Battalion, 8Th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, @ Camp Lejeune. The Battalion got Christmas leave for Christmas 1950. I volunteered to stay on the base over Christmas and took my leave over the New Year's holiday. When I returned to Camp Lejeune the whole Battalion had shipped out to Korea. I have never heard from anyone in the Battalion since that time.
