Comments: This request is probably an unusual one, but it pertains to the period in history that you all are concerned with. I recently acquired an M-1 Garand rifle. From the serial number I found that it had been built in 1943, and another search turned up a serial number sequence that indicates it was likely re-arsenaled during the Korean War in August 1951. It had probably been assigned to HQ CO, FMF PAC. I was never in the Military myself, so I don't know exactly what that designation means. My father was in the military, a belly turret gunner in B-17's during WWII (15th out of Foggia, Italy - bombed the Ploesti oil fields in Romania) and was a gunnery instructor stateside during the Korean War. I was hoping to get some idea as to what HQ CO, FMF PAC's mission would have been in 1951, where it was located, anything I can learn. Thanks for your help.

When asked about M.A.S.H.unit in Korea. |

Comments: When I asked my father about the show M.A.S.H., he told me briefly about an experience in Korea. He doesn't talk much about his war stories so I remember this very well as told to me over 30 years ago. My father's name is Cliff Colby and while serving for the Corps he was nicked in the head by a bullet during an engagement in Korea. He told me while he was recouperating at a M.A.S.H. unit ,during or near Christmas time, when able to walk on his own he was offered some home made hooch that kicked his butt. When he staggered back toward his tent and rack he passed out in a snow bank. Thank God he was found and taken inside to his bed before freezing to death. My father is not a liar and is a hero for his actions in Vietnam serving three tours. I am grateful for whomever helped my father to a warm tent to finish his recovery. If there is anyone who knows my Dad and any stories associated with his tours fighting for our country in Korea or Vietnam, please email me as he still doesn't talk much about his experiences. I want to learn as much as I can while my Father "a hero" is still with us on this Earth ,so I can honor him and all military hero's that much more. Thank you.

Comments: Been looking for Chandler ever since.....Chandler was originally from Santa Monica CA. May have been NJPd or court martialed for offenses while on liberty.
Keywords: Looking for anyone who knew Earl Chandler or Wendell Erler. I believe both were attached to the 1st Marine Division as cargo handlers. Erler is my father and after making it safely through Korea was hit by a drunk driver near CLNC. His friend was killed. He was in a coma for weeks. Bottom line is he lost about a year or two before he found an unopened letter from Chandler asking for his help that he had evidently received while in a coma.
