Comments: No one receiving dishonorable discharge for not serving should be allowed to comment although this commentor reapplied due to his alcoholism for honorable after it was considered a disease and did receive a regular discharge. Still no comments from a dishonorable person

Comments: I was among the very first to be sent to Sampson as permanent party to train new recruits in basic training. Our barracks weren't even heated in the winter of early 1951. I hadn't received basic myself at Lackland, so I had to learn basic as well as teach it as I went along. I was assigned to the 3673rd Sqdn. in "C" area.I did it well enough to win the two drill competitions my flights entered, I put 6 flights through basic before being sent to Texas when the rush of recruits eased off. It would be great fun to get in contact with anyone who remembers me. I have wonderful memories of Sampson.

Comments: I completed basic training in 1950 and went to Sheppard AFB for aircraft and engine mech training, then to Chanute, Ill for trng as a propeller mech. Some of the guys in my basic training flight were from New England i.e. Bill Klinger, Bill Isherwood, a guy named King and several others. I think some of them were from Fall River, Mass. I remained in the AF and retired in March, 1971. I served during the Korean conflict and was flight engineer on C 130's during Viet Nam.

Bonny Emanuel Williams wrote on 2007-10-31 22:21:37.0
Comments: I am retired USAF 1956-76. I served April 1969-May 1970 as the NCOIC (A2/G2) within Contract Management, Finance, Intelligence/PSY OPS, Plans/Requirements/Measurements, War Reserve Materiels, and Special Operations for the Commander of the 314 Air Division. Very few people regardless of the branch of service have served within my MOS and if they did it was mainly during WWII or the Cold War. Let's just say we did not interact with too many people being Acquisitions Technology & Logistics (AT&L) within A2 (AF Agency for ISR and AFSOC) unless our orders dictated it. Our clandestine nickname we are called 'greyhead's' at Langley and at the Pentagon.
I was in an isolated area as well as several areas at several bases on the pennisula some very close to the DMZ while 6314 Support Wing underneath the 314 Air Division. AFHRA has general histories on the 314 Air Division but no histories the 6314 support wing available for 1969-70. Notwithstanding, I can tell you we dealt with DET 4500, 1005 Special Investigations Group - OSI; (6314 support wing exercised special courtmartial status over AF personnel civilian or uniform attached to ROKAF, **6314 support wing worked for the O/L Director of Materiel- aka AFNSW-1 or AFTAC-1 aka Atomic Energy Commission with DAF-AIA elements**, O/L 6146 Air Force Advisory Group (AIA-AFSOC) to ROKAF, **Elements of ROKAF-33rd Pararescue Group//111th fighter Squadron (AFSOC)**; **DET, 6314 Munitions Maintenance**; 65th ordinance HAWK; 6044th USAF Dispensary, DET 2, 39th Air Division; Battery B, 6th Missile Battalion, 44th Artillery; DEt 10, 20th Weather Squadron; and the **6314 support wing chose USAF or Army Aviation Company to assist with our special mission unit** as directed by the Commander of the 314 Air Division for **US Ambassador to Korea** and to the all **UN Secy. General Office Operations in Korea(CINCUNC)**.
I have confirmation that used herbcides on the DMZ/Pennisula. **(The herbicides that were used was to kill mosquitos)** I was within an isolated areas at Osan and others bases I was required to operational guide to: Taegu, Kimpo, Pusan and Kunsan Air bases (active regular air force duty military, Executive Branch level (J1,J3) TDY's orders, and Civilian or Uniform DAF/Dept of the Army/Defense Contract Administration Agency section Special Missions Unit assignments)
Here is my question to my brothers and sisters that served during the 2nd Korea War (DMZ-post USS Pueblo incident) I would love to know which US army units within the 2nd and 7th artillery battalions we (6314 Support wing under the 314 air division) worked with? I just can't seem to find which US Army group we worked with. I have confirmation through my research (Defense Finance Accounting Service (special inquires secton) in Denver has been a big help finding 30 year old Executive Branch level TDY records)
I recently have enlisted the help of US Senator Maria Cantwell (WA-D) office and US Congressman Jay Inslee (D-Wa) help which has been a huge help to me. Both of their offices have been extremely help to me of late. I would like to thank them both.
Also we have been using the Disabled American Veterans as a service officer. They have done a decent job but you have to do more work than the your service officer in order to have a prayer let alone a change to be approved for Herbicidical, Agent Orange, Mustard Gas, Purple, or Ionizing Radiation contamination by the VA. I received my first rejection letter after 18 months of research. Notwithstanding, after I wrote a letter to the VA they have re-open my case because i have a great deal of new information and research that for some weird reason did not get evaluated by the VA. There was a mail problem between the Disabled American Veterans and the VA. This is why you must be careful with the DAV, VFW, American Legion, service office and officers. Those who work for DAV, VFW, American Legion etc are great americans but they have too high of a work load and too little pay.

He passed away in October of 2005. Only 3 of the guys he signed up with are still living so I am looking to hear from others who may have served with him. It was always my Dad's dream to find all of his "Old Crew" before he passed away but we didn't suceed. I just found this site and thought I'd try. Anyone with any information, please contact me. Comments: I was at Lackland just after Christmas 1950. I was about the last to get a uniform, I saw the 100,000 men come in. I helped put up the tents. Tried marching men on slick ice (they all fell down).Went to Sampson and put several flights through.Had a great time for 2 years. Went to Sheppard in Wichita Falls TX. Experienced over 100 degree heat for weeks,(even at night). Transferred to Connally in Waco.Worked on flight line on B25s.Then was in charge of "sudden service" supply room. Helped clean up after the Waco tornado. These were the 4 best years of my life. Is there anyone out there who remembers me?I'd like to swap stories.

Writing a book about SCARWAF, our combat engineer outfit, and looking for memories. Have tried contacting Owen and had no luck. He is about 74.
I seem to recall he wore his .45 in a cross-draw position, but don't quote me. However, he was from Texas.

Comments: Arrived Lackland 10 May 1950, waited ten days while enough enlistees arrived to compose a Flight. DI was SSgt Jude and assistant was PFC Woods, SIR! He could sail a blue P___pot helmet 75 yards and hit his target everytime. Was on the 2nd floor open bay of Barracks T-1428, fourth bunk, top berth, left side. Remember we had unfortunate circumstance of one of our members drowning in one of the base pools as he apparantly either sleepwalked or stepped into the water while pulling night time guard duty... as we learned our "Halt, who goes there?" routine. Don't remember the name but remembeer the circumstance well. Some names are Linus D. Bonham from Arkansas, Russell Don Kelly from Arkansas (heard years later that he was a county sheriff for many years back in the Ozarks) James Smith from New York..my squad leader. Junior Porch from Indiana, Polzin, Bradshaw, Vanepps, and a couple with Military High School training and because of them helping us; we won the BMT honor flight several times for Sergeant Jude and PFC Woods, SIR! Got a lot of old pics and some old yellow memographed orders with all the Flights names. We all were supposed to go to tech schools from BMT, but when the Korean conflict began we were nearing the end of our training and ALL were shipped out to wherever we were "needed" most.... really was looking forward to a Control Tower Job but instead went straight to Weaver, South Dakota on a troop train to walk point guard around B-29s and B-36s in piles and piles of snow on Rapid City AFB (Renamed Ellsworth in 1953). Hey, anyone remember any of these names, or wanna swap lies and war stories gimme a holler.

Comments: My Father was stationed on Guam 1950-1952. As far as I know he flew B29's as a pilot. He tells of missions that upon landing the had to remove there clothes and they and there plane were washed. They had filters on the aircraft to capture radioactive partical floating high above the Soviet coastline's. He clames that he landed the first B29 on Yap island which no had tried yet as it was so short. Cpt. James Edward Burke. I his son am trying to verify this as he passed away 23 August 2002 Jim was a member of the 54th WRS. Please let me know if they know of him or about Yap.
