Tried marching men on slick ice (they all fell down).Went to Sampson and put several flights through.Had a great time for 2 years. Went to Sheppard in Wichita Falls TX. Experienced over 100 degree heat for weeks,(even at night). Transferred to Connally in Waco.Worked on flight line on B25s.Then was in charge of "sudden service" supply room. Helped clean up after the Waco tornado. These were the 4 best years of my life. Is there anyone out there who remembers me?I'd like to swap stories.

Comments: I am a friend of Merwin Perkins, US Marine veteran and I am interested in hearing from any and all vets who served with him in the Chosin Reservoir. "Perk" related some very interesting stories and even told me about a book, " Colder than Hell", Chosin Reservoir. I am a veteran also. I served in the US Army from 1980-1984. I have the utmost respect for the Korean war vets and want to say thank you for your service.!!

I think a reference to the U.S. Airforce Training Command should be
included.
In my case, the B-29 combat crew training conducted at Randolph AFB,
Texas,1950-53. This was a high prority exercise to reactivate AF
Reserve personnel and reclaim the WW2 B-29's from their desert storage
places.
As is well known, the B-29 bombardment of North Korea was vital
in the early stages of that "police action". Randolph AFB was converted
from T-6 pilot training very quickly to accomodate the B-29's, aircrews
and maintenance personnel.
At it's peak, around 80 B-29's were flying daily training missions to
qualify flight crews for deployment in overseas action. Aircraft
maintenance was a key element in the success of the program. The 29 was
a maintenance intensive aircraft, which I can attest to as a crew chief
during that period. It took a lot of effort from our ground crews to
keep those big guys in the air.
It should also be noted that many aircrews did not return, especially
after the Russian MIG,s entered the airwar. There are numerous
publications on the B-29 efforts in Korea, but not much is written about
the guy's in greasy fatigues. Thanks for listening.
Specifically the 3510 and 3512 Maintenance Squadrons. I was the Crew
Chief of B29, AF Serial No. 4486394, tail No.10, 3510 Maint. Sq. Would
like to know the final disposition of those B29's. The CAF B29, "FIFI
reclaimed from desert storage, was tail No. 35 at Randolph during that period.

I am a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and was just
surfing to see if there was anything new on the KWVA.org site. Then I
followed the link over to see if this site had changed. I am still
searching for AACS friends that also served during the 1951 to 1954 era.
I went through basic with the 3744th, flight 191, then was sent to
Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, TX with the old 1064th Communications Group.
Then they changed our name to the 2048th AACS Squadron. In 1953 I was
transferred to the 2045th at Andrews, and then on to the 244th AACS
Squadron at the Pentagon. My entire service life was spent in what was
called teletype relay control switching centers. My fondest memories
are with friends at Carswell, so if you want to add anything to my guest
registration it would be looking for friends from the 2048th.
Best Wishes,
Joan McKinney
