Comments: Been looking for old members of Basic Tng Flight 5167 (Flight Chief: Cpl Loyal) and Radar Opr Course 51400 Keesler AFB, especially my old pal Carl A. Olson from Blackduck MN. We parted company after Keesler and I never heard from him again. I hope you're still alive and well buddy. Often wonder what happened to you after Keesler. I went to 755th AC&W in Williams Bay, WI, later to 608th in Korea and finished up at Hqs 30th AD in Ypsilanti, MI If you see this buddy give me a holler! PS: How's your little sister Jenny? I served April 1969-May 1970 as the NCOIC (A2/G2) within Contract Management, Finance, Intelligence/PSY OPS, Plans/Requirements/Measurements, War Reserve Materiels, and Special Operations for the Commander of the 314 Air Division. Very few people regardless of the branch of service have served within my MOS and if they did it was mainly during WWII or the Cold War. Let's just say we did not interact with too many people being Acquisitions Technology & Logistics (AT&L) within A2 (AF Agency for ISR and AFSOC) unless our orders dictated it. Our clandestine nickname we are called 'greyhead's' at Langley and at the Pentagon.

I was in an isolated area as well as several areas at several bases on the pennisula some very close to the DMZ while 6314 Support Wing underneath the 314 Air Division. Here is my question to my brothers and sisters that served during the 2nd Korea War (DMZ-post USS Pueblo incident) I would love to know which US army units within the 2nd and 7th artillery battalions we (6314 Support wing under the 314 air division) worked with? I just can't seem to find which US Army group we worked with. I have confirmation through my research (Defense Finance Accounting Service (special inquires secton) in Denver has been a big help finding 30 year old Executive Branch level TDY records)

I recently have enlisted the help of US Senator Maria Cantwell (WA-D) office and US Congressman Jay Inslee (D-Wa) help which has been a huge help to me. Both of their offices have been extremely help to me of late. I would like to thank them both.

Also we have been using the Disabled American Veterans as a service officer. They have done a decent job but you have to do more work than the your service officer in order to have a prayer let alone a change to be approved for Herbicidical, Agent Orange, Mustard Gas, Purple, or Ionizing Radiation contamination by the VA. I received my first rejection letter after 18 months of research. Notwithstanding, after I wrote a letter to the VA they have re-open my case because i have a great deal of new information and research that for some weird reason did not get evaluated by the VA. There was a mail problem between the Disabled American Veterans and the VA. This is why you must be careful with the DAV, VFW, American Legion, service office and officers. Those who work for DAV, VFW, American Legion etc are great americans but they have too high of a work load and too little pay.

I think a reference to the U.S. Airforce Training Command should be
included.

In my case, the B-29 combat crew training conducted at Randolph AFB,
Texas,1950-53. This was a high prority exercise to reactivate AF
Reserve personnel and reclaim the WW2 B-29's from their desert storage
places.

As is well known, the B-29 bombardment of North Korea was vital
in the early stages of that "police action". Randolph AFB was converted
from T-6 pilot training very quickly to accomodate the B-29's, aircrews
and maintenance personnel.

At it's peak, around 80 B-29's were flying daily training missions to
qualify flight crews for deployment in overseas action. Aircraft
maintenance was a key element in the success of the program. The 29 was
a maintenance intensive aircraft, which I can attest to as a crew chief
during that period. It took a lot of effort from our ground crews to
keep those big guys in the air.

It should also be noted that many aircrews did not return, especially
after the Russian MIG,s entered the airwar. There are numerous
publications on the B-29 efforts in Korea, but not much is written about
the guy's in greasy fatigues. Thanks for listening.

Specifically the 3510 and 3512 Maintenance Squadrons. I was the Crew
Chief of B29, AF Serial No. 4486394, tail No.10, 3510 Maint. Sq. Would
like to know the final disposition of those B29's. The CAF B29, "FIFI
reclaimed from desert storage, was tail No. 35 at Randolph during that period.

I am a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and was just
surfing to see if there was anything new on the KWVA.org site. Then I
followed the link over to see if this site had changed. I am still
searching for AACS friends that also served during the 1951 to 1954 era.

I went through basic with the 3744th, flight 191, then was sent to
Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, TX with the old 1064th Communications Group.

Then they changed our name to the 2048th AACS Squadron. In 1953 I was
transferred to the 2045th at Andrews, and then on to the 244th AACS
Squadron at the Pentagon. My entire service life was spent in what was
called teletype relay control switching centers. My fondest memories
are with friends at Carswell, so if you want to add anything to my guest
registration it would be looking for friends from the 2048th.

Best Wishes,
Joan McKinney
