Captain Billy Locke

Comments: Looking for any other Air Force personell stationed out of Japan in August 1950 with Captain Billy Locke. He was shot down outside of Pusan on 17 August 1950 and taken prisoner. He survived one of the death marched to Pynompang. Esacaped (with the help of Mr. Kumagaya)in September 1950.

Comments: I am looking for Clyde Baker. That is all the info I have on him at this time. My dad hasn't seen him in over 50 years, and would like someday to know what ever happened to him. Korean/Italian Son Looking for long-lost Father & Little Brother

Comments: I have no specific information, but am hoping that by some miracle I can locate an Italian-American Korean War vet that had a two sons by a woman in Korea. The sons are currently in their 50s. He came and took the younger son (should be late forties/early fifties in age) from Korea to come to America. The older son stayed in Korea with his mother and was adopted by an American family. His name was Lee Young Ho.

Comments: We were flying out of Moffat Field after 6th Army Baseball Championships at Fort Ord in 1954-headed for McChord Airbase WA. and a plane headed for Hanford WA flew out at the same time and crashed in The Cascades-killing all aboard. Hanford had played baseball in the same championships at Fort Ord. our borrowed aircraft arrived at McChord safely. I, Robert Hayes was manager of the Fort Lewis Baseball Team in 1954 and I wondered if the crashed aircraft was headed for McChord also when it crashed

Comments: While in Korea in 1953 I was attached to VMO6 for a year as a weather observer. Some of us were sent to outposts in various parts of Korea. VMO6 (heavier than air marine observation 6) was a small observation/evacution unit. Just wondering if it is familiar to anyone.

FROM 1950 TO JAPAN TO KOREA FOR INCHON BY SEA

Comments: of the fearless five we shared a tent, bartered malt, played thousands of canasta games, salvaged radios from wrecks, at Teagu Cpl Art Weart lighted the airport and provided it's tactical phones with operators from the town before going back to Pohang. One time four F-80's were lost above the cloud layer and using Marine DF managed to land 3 (the fourth out of gas was lost but pilot bailed out OK). Art enabled a B-25 to return to Japan by fixing it's VHF radio - and helped refuel other B-25's by adding gas to tanks from 5 gal jerry cans.

Prior to leaving Hamhung Cpl Weart had to destroy a C-46 with China markings that had a gear up landing one night and was blocking the only runway - (being used to evacuate round the clock flights). Damn hard - used a Marine tank to haul it off and then mash it to scrap. Could not make it burn - tried mag, gas, flares, nothing. Got got a marine tank to mash it up. worked fine. The tankers thought so too.

Looking for info on Grandfather

Comments: Looking for anyone who might have known my gandfather William Jackson Hill or my grandmother Bette Faye (Dill, Hill) Vietinghoff. They both from my understanding in Korea. They divorced some time after my father Larry Alvis Hill was born in Tacoma, WA in 1956. She met Al Vietinghoff there, whom I new as my grandfather growing up. I thought I found William J. Hill in FL, yet he passed away in 2004 before I could verify anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Fearless five of the Dirty Thirty

Comments: On arrival Sept 1960 HQ 5th AF Nagoya Radio Repair shop, then to one of two 15 man AF Comm repair Units formed at Nagoya and sent by train to Yokahoma and 15 of us went by ship to Inchon invasion to Kimpo (other 15 flew to Kimpo) to Wonson to Hamhung/Hungnam to PoHang when unit disbanded after 9 mos with personnel scattered in '81. One older guy from Utah took lots of photos - ???

Five of us bunked in a tent - one a black guy from Boston - and called ourselves the fearless five of the dirty 30 and we really didn't do a lot but were available to fix or install comm stuff where ever we happened to be.

Have no idea what out official group name was other than we wound up with a 67 total personnel with some 65 vehicles and one L5 airplane (and a boat at one place) for a while.

Yongjongdo Island Homing Site (TK)

Comments: My Internet Address has changed since I entered info earlier. It is now, gerpa@sbcglobal.net and with DSL, which I am trying to master. Anyway, I was at Kimpo (K14) for a short time and then was selected to go out to the island of Yongjongdo (as a radio operator) and set up this homing site with the call letters of (TK) (TANGO KILO) (DAH, DAH DI DAH) Was only supposed to stay 3 months and rotate back to Kimpo but I kept voluteering to stay there and I put 9 months in out there. If anyone reads this,I would appreciate a contact. I have already made contact with some guys who were at Kimpo when I was there and we send things back and forth from time to time. I have met some Korean people here in Indiana from around that area and they tell me that the island has been incorporated into Inchon and the Seoul area and is now a large airport. I guess they built bridges across the water or filled it in. Anyway I am sure it doesn't look like it did when I was there 55 years ago.

Comments: I know it's a longshop but then so was finding my birthmother Sueko Machi Curtis when I was 37 yrs old. All she could remember about my father was that either his 1st or last name was Otto, blonde hair, blue eyes, slight of build with acne, which I inherited and past down to my kids. He may have been an MP or worked in the motor pool on Kadena. My adopted father was also stationed there. His name was Sgt. Billy Cliff Ashley Sr. My birthfather shipped home approx. March 1953. I was born in January 1954. I would like to know if he would like to know what happened to me or would like contact with me, his daughter Kaeyoko Machi, now Linda Lee Ashley Garrett. Sueko gave me both names, 1 for the U.S. and 1 for my Japanese family with whom I have been also been reunited. Comments: I know this is most likely impossible. My father's name was Robert Lowry. He was in the Air Force. He didn't care so much about talking about the war. He took pictures of bombing targets before and after the missions. I would love to know any stories about him.He was a great man. He was born in Dayton Tenn. The sign on my tent read "Kimpo Insane Aslymn & had several names on it, Welty, tex, Hal Woody, Monson, & Jarvis. I worked on the line and did a little of everything. LOOKING FOR MEN THAT SERVED WITH AL ROTH

Comments: Al had a stroke 7 years ago and I am trying to gather info from any source to help us get his personnel records, just to bhe able to get his ID #, when he dies, to have the proper burial by the AF. He has lost all records and has nothing to prove his service,and due to brain damage, only remembers Lackland and Sheppard AFB and I am having a difficult time with the Veterans Personnel in St. Louis. Comments: I am posting in hopes of locating any individual that may have information in regards to the 406th Motor Squadron located at Manston AFB, Kent, England during the years of 1952-53. My grandfather, Gray Davis Goodwin, was stationed at this location during these years. He was seriously injured on a base explosion in 1953 and suffered 3rd degree burns over 70% of his body. He has little recollection of the events that occurred that day and would like to reunite with some old friends to catch up and see if anyone can shed some light on his accident.

I know nothing about what any of this means. We were separated when I was 5. We reunited when I was 35 and he died 3 weeks afer coming back into my life. It was not his fault for any of it. I was adopted and my name was changed. I loved my father very much. We had little time to catch up with each other before he died. 1993rd AACS Sqd Kimpo Air Base K14, 1951-1952

Comments: Wenty to Korea from Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and was assigned to Kimpo Air Base (K-14), some peoo=ple have called it K-16 but I knew it as K-14. Was there for a short time and was then assigned to an island, Yongdong-Do which was north northeast of Inchon. There were 2 radio operators, 2 power supply technicians and 2 radio mechanics. We set up a homing station there on top of the highest point on the island over looking the village below. Our call sign for the homing station was TK, which was sent out 24 hours a day by morse code. The other radio operator was sent to Johnson Air Base in Japan and then I was the only operator there. I made contact with Kimpo two times daily. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon to advise them how things were going. We had no commisioned officers. I do not remember any of the other guys there with me but we had a great outfit and we got the job done. We had a Korean man we called Sparky and had a dog we named Tripod because someone let a chair leg down on his paw and he hopped around for a while. If anyone remembers any of this, please contact me. I am getting old but in fairly good health so I will be able to talk to you. I have contacted two other fellows who served at Kimpo who knew Myers, Booze and Haley...Looking for some contact. PS. We had lots of air drops on the island and a LST would supply us once a month. I was an A1C at the time.

Comments: I meyt his young lady at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana and last saw her in Octobr l951 whioch is when I was transferred to England. We were fallingf deeply in love with one another but circumstances beyond our conntrol resulted in not being able to remain in contact. You might say this is a 50 love affair and I would like to contact her at least once before my time on this earth is brought to an end.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone that was statined at Barksdale AFB during the period l950/1854. Perhaps we could put some bits of infomation that would provie productive in my search.
