Comments: Subject: Email Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 08:42:19 -0500 From: Harlean Harlowe To: hbarker@kwp.org, tbarker@kwp.org
My husband was in Korea in 1950 during the Korean Conflict in the U. S. Air Force. He recently passed away.
Do you know where I can find out if there are any burial benefits for him for that particular time in the armed forces? Or where I might find this out.
Wife of Corporal Stanley Schindleheim USAF. He was able to buy two houses under the VA, because he was in Korea during this conflict.
Thank you, Harlean Schindelheim Wife of Stanley Schindelheim and mother of Warrant officer and helicopter in the U. S. Army and flew helicopters 3 yrs in Medivac in Korea and then came home because he wanted to fly jets and finished his college here in Texas and was commissioned a Lt.in the USMC and started to fly jets for the Marine Corps until he was on deployment in the Med. Sea off the USS Kennedy aircraft carrier and much to my regret he lost his life in one of their crummy A-6's off the isle of Crete on Oct. 24th, 1986. The worst day of my life. Oh, by the way the Marines do not take care of their own. My opinion and a very good one I might add.

Comments: I was with the 2nd AACS Mobile Squadron and stationed all over Euorpe and parts of the middle east from 1952 - 1956. I was variously an air-to-ground radio operator, air traffic controller and weather intercepter. Just recently I returned to France to a town named Ponte Musson where I was stationed. To my absolute amazment, the town had not changed, it was exactly as I remebered it over 40 years ago. If anyone has information about the Squadron or patches for the squadron, please contact me.

Comments: I would like to thank the person who created this site. I would like to hear from Billy Joe Cook or one of the other two guys who sang in our barber shop quartet at Eilson Air Force Base in Alaska. It think one was named Scattebough and not even sure about the spelling. Our squadron was making flights over the North Pole for radiation detection. Are you out there? Thanks, Marion Hugh Winsett

Comments: My father, Hoolie Bowermaster, asked me to find his comrades, especially Robert N. Holmes. They were in SAC in the 55th Field Maintenance Squadron 54-56. My Dad received Basic Training at Lackland AFB in Texas. From Oct. '52 to Mar.'53 he was at Amarillo. From Mar. '53 to Aug. '56 he was at Forbes SAC Base in Topeka, KS. He was overseas at French Morocco for 3 months, but I don't know exactly when. I thought he was in Korea, but he wasn't; he was in the Air Force during the war, but not in Korea. Dad is now hard of hearing & somehow I got the info he gave me messed up.
Dad has been known at "Hoolie" since he was a child. His real name is Walter Allen Bowermaster. If you can give me some info for him, I would appreciate it.

I am a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and was just
surfing to see if there was anything new on the KWVA.org site. Then I
followed the link over to see if this site had changed. I am still
searching for AACS friends that also served during the 1951 to 1954 era.
I went through basic with the 3744th, flight 191, then was sent to
Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, TX with the old 1064th Communications Group.
Then they changed our name to the 2048th AACS Squadron. In 1953 I was
transferred to the 2045th at Andrews, and then on to the 244th AACS
Squadron at the Pentagon. My entire service life was spent in what was
called teletype relay control switching centers. My fondest memories
are with friends at Carswell, so if you want to add anything to my guest
registration it would be looking for friends from the 2048th.
Best Wishes,
Joan McKinney
