KADENA BASE- CAPTAIN GERALD GLADE USAF PILOT

Comments: My dad, Gerald L Glade, passed away Nov 9 2016. He recently got a letter from:
Vogue.

My dad fondly spoke of his buddy Vogue and his squadron Lamb, Meeks, Hopkins,
My dad volunteered to pick up a downed Thunderjet that had malfunctioned and was
repaired.

Not one of the boys would volunteer as they knew it was risky as the mechanic had
no way of knowing how well it was repaired! They were stationed right after the
war at Kadena base in Okinawa. Dad-Captain Gerald Glade- volunteered. He said
he was having fun and even showed off(a little)

He was flying over shark infested swamp waters. He brought the F_*$Thunderjet in
and shut it down. Just then the engine exploded and caught fire. The guys
were waiting with fire extinguishers and dad jumped through the flames onto the
ground unharmed. I believe he said it was on MAY 8 th 1955? My mother, Marilyn
passed away on May 8th a year ago. We are having the memorial service and
military salute May 12 2017in Ft. Laramie and wish to invite anyone who knew our
dad.
Please email me. We wrote to Vogue but received no answer. If you ever got the
letter please send a reply Jennifer Wagner Thanku and God Bless!!!:)

KOREA WAR-AIR FORCE IN TRIPOLI

KAREN WHITE wrote on November 11, 2016

Unit:

Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER

Comments: My father, Melvin L White, was in the Us Air Force and stationed in Tripoli during
the Korean War. He was from Dayton, OH and is now diceased and unable to tell me
stories of his past. He was a very quiet man with a great sense of humor. He was a
wonderful husband, father of 3 daughters, and a wonderful provider for his family.
I am the youngest of of the daughters and lost my father to Alzheimer's disease
before I was mature enough to realize I did not know much about my fathers history.
I've been told he was an A2C and worked in printing/propaganda and never actually
saw combat, but do not know anything else of his service. As I find myself aging, I
wish more than anything, my father was here for me to ask him to tell me about his
service. I'm asking if anyone knew and served with him that may be able to share
stories of your, and his, time of service. God Bless all Veterans and Thank You for
your service.

It was eaten by moths and thrown out by moths, and he is deceased. I'd love to know what unit that was. I probably spelled the base incorrectly. It was a big enough base to show movies every night. MY BROTHER WAS CONTINUALLY SICK WHILE STATIONED IN ASHIYA AIR FORCE BASE-JAPAN

Service or Relationship: AIR FORCE VETERAN

Comments: MY BROTHER, Orson William Hildebrand Jr. was stationed at Ashiya AirForce Base-JAPAN FROM 9 SEPTEMBER 1952 TO 13 MARCH 1954. He was a radio repairman.During the time he was at Ashiya he was in and out of the hospital , deathly sick with flu like symptoms. Also during this time his combat record shows; Second summer fall offensive, Korea, 1 Oct, 52, 30 Nov. 52, Third Korean Winter, Korea 1Dec 52, 30/pr53, Korean Summer -Fall, Korea 1 May 53-27 Jul 53. We remember him talking about flying deceased troops out of Korea and I remember viewing a picture he had showing the inside of a airplane with body bags against the walls of the aircraft (both sides) either in bunks or strapped to the sides of the plane. The bags were four to six high. I can't remember for sure. our question is why would he as a Acft Elect Rpmn be flying the deceased troops. Was it a requirement to have a Acft Elect Rpmn on the airplane? This was a large airplane and a large amount of bodies. I don't know from his combat record if he would have been flying in the airplanes at that time or doing other type of combat at that time.Or if he could have been flying at other times. We are concerned if he could have contracted some illness (disease) while doing this. His time of illness started after he was done with the Korean Summer-FALL, korea combat from 1 May 53 to 27d July 53. He was sick thereafter in and out of sick bay (dispensary) and in the USAF Hospital-483d medical group, Ashiya Air Base, Japan. His sickness continued after he came back to the states and to Pinecastle Air Force base, Florida and to civilian life.
We are concerned if this was from overseas and continued on through his service and into civilian life what it was and could it have continued on to his children. One of his sons has the same symptions and almost died in a hospital in Sacramento, California last year. Please-anyone answer to our e-mail. Were concerned- should we be?
