MY BROTHER WAS CONTINUALLY SICK WHILE STATIONED IN ASHIYA AIR FORCE BASE-JAPAN

Comments: MY BROTHER, Orson William Hildebrand Jr. was stationed at Ashiya AirForce Base-JAPAN FROM 9 SEPTEMBER 1952 TO 13 MARCH 1954. He was a radio repairman.During the time he was at Ashiya he was in and out of the hospital , deathly sick with flu like symptoms. Also during this time his combat record shows; Second summer fall offensive, Korea, 1 Oct, 52, 30 Nov. 52, Third Korean Winter, Korea 1Dec 52, 30/pr53, Korean Summer -Fall, Korea 1 May 53-27 Jul 53. We remember him talking about flying deceased troops out of Korea and I remember viewing a picture he had showing the inside of a airplane with body bags against the walls of the aircraft (both sides) either in bunks or strapped to the sides of the plane. The bags were four to six high. I can't remember for sure. our question is why would he as a Acft Elect Rpmn be flying the deceased troops. Was it a requirement to have a Acft Elect Rpmn on the airplane? This was a large airplane and a large amount of bodies. I don't know from his combat record if he would have been flying in the airplanes at that time or doing other type of combat at that time.Or if he could have been flying at other times. We are concerned if he could have contracted some illness (disease) while doing this. His time of illness started after he was done with the Korean Summer-FALL, korea combat from 1 May 53 to 27d July 53. He was sick thereafter in and out of sick bay (dispensary) and in the USAF Hospital-483d medical group, Ashiya Air Base, Japan. His sickness continued after he came back to the states and to Pinecastle Air Force base, Florida and to civilian life.
We are concerned if this was from overseas and continued on through his service and into civilian life what it was and could it have continued on to his children. One of his sons has the same symptions and almost died in a hospital in Sacramento, California last year. Please-anyone answer to our e-mail. Were concerned- should we be?

TB-25N 44-86779 DOWN ON 1 OCTOBER 1953

GARY LEWIS wrote on August 26, 2013

City and State: ELLERSLIE GE

Unit:

Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN

Comments: Greetings,

I am seeking additional information regarding a
North American B-25J which crashed 7 miles West of
Manchester, GA on 1 October 1953.

Four Airmen were killed in a crash ground
collision in Pine Mountain Valley. The ship was a
TB-25N serial number 44-86779 assigned to the
1403rd Maintenance Squadron, based out of Andrews
AFB, Maryland, Military Air Transport Service
(MATS).

I am looking for a photograph of the B-25 if there
is one out there. I have a copy of the accident
report.

I am seeking information and possibly photographs
on the crew and passengers as well. I was able to
find the following:

The Pilot-In-Command was Air Force Captain Stephen
Aloysisus Clisham, assigned to the 9th Weather
Group, Air Weather Service, Military Air Transport
at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

Photo acquired from his daughter

The Copilot was Captain Virgil Grant Harris; he
was assigned to the 1009th Special Weapons
Squadron, Headquarters, United States
Air Force at Bolling Field, Maryland. Photo
shamelessly lifted from the internet

Technical Sergeant O. B. Hoke, his given name was
Othello B. Hoke
of Mineral Wells, Texas, was assigned to the
1403rd Maintenance
Squadron, as the Flight Engineer of the B-25.

Airman 3rd Class Robert W. Davidson (he was
actually a Robert
Junior) from Hopewell, Pennsylvania. He was
assigned to
Detachment 1922-3, 1922nd Airways and Air
Communications Service
Squadron at Eglin, Air Force Base, in Florida.

Airman 2nd Class B. J. Shepard, His given name was
Benny, from
Dayton, Ohio. He was assigned to the 3206th
Support Wing at
Eglin, Air Force Base.

Sailor, Richard K. Schmidt, 19, of Rumson, NJ.,
who hitch-hiked a
ride aboard the B-25 as it left Eglin AFB, Fla.,
escaped with a
possible hip fracture and lacerations. I talked
to him; he had
no additional information on the crew.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Gary Lewis

Comments: Looking for information on my father Elliott. I do not
have a any other name but he was from Henderson,North
Carolina and was sent home due to his mother's illness
or
a wreck of some type. The Red Cross helped him be sent
home. Elliott would have been in the AF in the early
1950's. He was 1 of 8 children, his youngest brother
had
a speech impediment. I was adopted and this is all the
information I received from Social Services. I would
love
to find out who Elliott is and something about him.
Thanks for any help.
Nancy

Have been back to Manston 4 times, no USAF there now
and no Brits military. Margate and Ramsgate are a
little run down but they are working on it.
Dreamland has closed but is set to reopen as a ride
museum. I really enjoyed my time there, married a
Brit but we have been divorced for years and she has
passed away. I have the 1955 year book for Manston
if anyone wants me to look up names and units etc.

Comments: I'm looking for anyone who either knew or served with my father
from Feb. 1946 -1953. All I know is he was a radio operator
during the Korean war and was wounded by shrapnel in the
cockpit of a bomber? If there is anyone out there who remembers
him or has any information about his service duty, PLEASE contact
me as I would like to know the whole story. He passed away April
16 of this year and there are so many holes we are trying to fill
about his life.
