Comments: I was just a seventeen year-old,guy from Phoenix, Arizona whose Naval Reserve unit was "called up" during the Korean era. I entered Boot Camp at the Naval Training Station (San Diego)in June of 1952. Our Chief Petty Officer was Chief Castillo and our Company was #440. Doug Patterson was in our Company as was a guy named Philpenny. Chief Castillo appointed me as Recruit CPO. Although we did win the Excellency Trophy, I did not think I was a very good leader. I went on to be trained as an Aviation Machinist Mate; Aerial Gunnery at Ream Field (Mexican border); Naval Air Training Station in Norman, OK.; O&R on Coronado Is and finally to Litchfield Naval Air Facility outside of Phoenix, Ariz.
Trying to run down old friends from those days; and a 1952 (August or Sept.) Boot Camp Graduation photo of our 440 Company on the grinder before the reviewing stand, being presented with the Excellency Trophy. The photo was also in a book published by Abe the Newsboy in 1952.
My very best wishes to any of my forner buddies.
Bob Terrell

Comments: Sworn in May 4, 1951, and would have started Boot Camp about May 8th. Not sure of Company number, but may have been 489. I don't recall the "Boot pusher's" name, but I believe our Recruit Company Commander was a Thomas Sly. I was the Company Guidon. I'd like to hear from anyone this rings a bell with.

Comments: My father's name was Daniel James Cooper he was a Airmen Electrician . Everyone probally called him DJ.When he went into the Navy he lived in Portland, Oregon. I've never seen my father and before I could get a chance to meet him he had died.I do not have a picture of my father, BUT i would love to find one. Someone said that there might have been a group picture taken where he went to boot camp.I would like to find out where I could get one at ,if anyone know's where I could get one it would be much appreciated.I hope that some one either knew my father or knows how I can aquire a Navy photo of him or something from boot camp.
