Comments: I went to the U.S. Recruit Training Center in San Diego, California in June, 1953. I was in Company 177 but after primary training I served in the Drum & Bugle Corp and had to extend my boot camp 3 weeks. I graduated with Company 194. I was assigned to the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego, California. I was only 17 years old. I went aboard the U.S.S. Brinkley Bass (DD-887) in early 1955 and served until April, 1957 when I was released from active duty. I was a Storekeeper 3rd Class but made 2nd Class if I reenlisted. I made two far eastern cruises to the South Pacific and Destroyer Division 52 was assigned to the 7th Fleet. We patrolled in the Formosa Straights and saw several countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Phillipines, Australia, etc. I have been a law enforcement officer now 38 years and am still employed. Anyone who remembers me, I would be glad to hear from you. Thanks

Comments: Joined on April 3, 1951 and was assigned to Company 303, North Island. Completely lost touch with everyone, and don't remember many names. Would like to get in touch with anyone who was in that company. Went to school at Norman, OK, Jax Fla and wound up on the USS Oriskany.

Comments: My father, Virgil Hawkins, graduated boot camp from Great Lakes in 1954 or 1955. His company # was 292. If any of you gentlemen out there remember him, Please contact me at my e-mail address. Also, His nickname was "arky" because he lived in arkansas. It is important that you contact me if you remember him. I thank you very much.
