Comments: I am searching for my girlfiends father. He was a black man named Frank Johnson and stationed in Edinborough, Scotland in August of 1952. My girlfriend was conceived at that time. My girlfriends mother's name was Mary King Fraser. Mary has since passed away and I would like to find my girlfriends father for her. She is malato and does not have any sense of her black cultural roots. I would love for her to have that and at least know what kind of man her father was!! He may or may not be still living but either way the information would be a wonderful gift for her. If you have any information in any way that could help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanx Nettie King
Keywords: All I know is he was a petty officer, Frank Johnson stationed in Edinborough, Scotland in August of 1952. I beleive he was on the mainbrace of a destroyer with a fleet of ships.

Comments: I have had great success in finding shipmates from VC-35 from 1954-5. However, prior to VC-35 I was stationed at NAS North Island not in a squadron housed there, but assigned to the air station itself. There were several groups e.g. Operations, Overhaul & Repair, Administration, Transmitters, etc. I have been unsuccessful in locating any shipmates from Operations because searches for NAS San Diego or NAS North Island always turn up one of the patrol squadrons which were home based at North Island. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find someone who was assigned to one of the air stations and not just housed there?

I can remember we made two trips to Korea, I remember making three or four trips but some of them could have been on the USS Fletcher (DD\DDE445). We entered the combat zone on 28 June 1953 and departed July 27,1953. This is from the Chief of Naval Personnel.

We moved to Long Beach and took a group of Sea Scouts to Catalina on our first official cruise. Just as I got used to the Goss, I was transferred overseas to the USS Toledo (CA-133). Both ships are gone by now. Where are the former shipmates, like Mossman and Hammer from FT division?
