Comments: I would like to contact my old Navy, weightlifting buddy "Ray Sewell". Ray was from Ohio and won the Jr. National Olympic Championship in Cleveland, OH prior to 1953 in the 132 lb class. We served together in Special Services at Norfolk Air Station between 1953-1955. We went to Richmond VA for a state championship meet in 1954 where Ray broke the state records in the 132lb class and our buddy "Bruce Randall" broke all the records in the Heavy weight class. (Skinny ole me I came in 3rd in the 165lb class) Ray's ambition was to become a Chiropractor after leaving the Navy. Anyone who served in Special Services, NAS, Norfolk 1953-1955 please contact me.

Comments: All I have of my father's memory is a big box full of photos he took before I was born. The information I have been able to piece together is that he joined the Navy at 17, 1952, because his father told him if he didn't want to finish high school he had to learn a trade in the service. I found his resume in his things when I was a kid, before my mother threw everything away. I learned that he studied electronics and eventually was employed by Motorola installing and repairing radiology equipment at hospitals. Most of the photos I have are sailors and scenes in alaska. My dad died suddenly when I was 4 from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. I remember nothing about my dad except for some fleeting visual memories as a toddler. I have always missed him terribly and no one will talk to me about him. He's been dead for 31 years so I am really the only one who is interested in him anymore.

Two men were identified on some of his pics: "Rip" and Fred Shields.

I am only hoping that someone will remember Robert "Bob" Haines and pass on anything they might want to tell me.

Thank You- Barbara Haines

Comments: We were the service squadron for VP 40 between 1951 & 1953 at Sangley Point in the Philippines.

Did members of our squadron receive any kind of recognition for this service during or after the Korean War?
